"File Open" dialog box sort order in 6.10

When I open the "Open a file" dialog box, the sort order has become "stuck" on reverse "date modified".

I can click on the dropdown for "details view" and re-sort the list, but the next time I open the box, it's gone back to reverse date and "List" view.

This is NOT the sort order or view I get in Windows (XP SP3) when I simply open the same directory.

How can I change it back to open the dialog in the order I last selected (or have in Windows)?

I can't find anything in the manual, help or Knowledge Base files, and it's a real pain to have to re-sort every time!
