Is anyone successfully using GA 3 with Win 7/64bit OS?

I've been holding off installing it on my newer computer. I can't wait any longer though, I need to start some projects. I may need to find an alternative.

Thanks!

had ga3 installed bout 3 weeks ago, win7 64bit, C5 64 bit. have done only a couple of test patterns but everything appears to as it should be, imo better sounding & more useable drums
than original ga1.

happy trails danc

Using GA3 with Windows 7/64 and Cubase 5/64 all fine here.

Not so true about many non-Steinberg plug-ins, but Groove Agent 3 is working absoutely as I would expect in my all 64-bit world

(and, yes, I know GA3 is only a 32-bit VST :-)

No way man. Cubase 64 bit doesn't work with Groove Agent and Windows 7 nicely. It doesn't record live to host in Windows 7 64 bit and Cubase 64 bit.

You're right. Install Cubase 32bit along side the 64bit.
But use the 32bit to record the midi data from GA3 and then use the 64bit to reopen the project.

I just received Groove Agent 3 today and have spent several hours trying to get over this hurdle of Groove Agent 3 not functioning in Live To Host for those of us using Windows 7 - 64 bit. I have read numerous posts in regards to this issue, which seems to have been around for some time now.

FSalomon ... PLEASE tell me that this is a joke: You're right. Install Cubase 32bit along side the 64bit. But use the 32bit to record the midi data from GA3 and then use the 64bit to reopen the project. That might be a work around, but it is certainly not a solution for those who have to write and produce music that requires hits and other more involved production issues for movies and TV and games.

I can't believe that Steinberg would allow this problem to continue. Windows 7 64 bit has been out for, what... nine months or so now.

Does anyone out there know if Steinberg is ACTIVELY working on a solution to this?

Thank you,

CD

I installed C5-32bit in paralel to my C5 64bit and tried "live to host", it not working either.
So I really wonder if anyone has a working "live to host" function using a win7 64 bit with a C5 32bit install ?

Heinz44...

If the posts throughout this Forum are any indication, I would say "no". It truly is unfortunate.

Steinberg's system requirements state: Supported operating systems: Windows XP SP2 (32-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 ...Note that it does not say Windows 7 (32-bit). I'm hoping that the minds that produce these incredible products can overcome this 64-bit hurdle poste haste. Otherwise, at this late in the game, I have no choice but to start looking at the other vendors.

Let's hope for the best. As I stated previously, Windows 7 64-bit is not a new product and, I feel, this should have been resolved by now.

Not a joke craigdayton, I too was pulling my hair trying to figure out a solution for that problem, but a steinberg tech told me that they are aware of the problem, and that it only exists with Cubase 64bit.
The headquaters in Germany know about it and they are working for a solution. The problem is with the 64bit vst bridge.

Now I di install cubase 32bit from the CD and updated that version online to the latest.

It works, people. If it doesn't work for you it could be that you forgot to click on "live to host" or something.

But I assure you it works.
---------------------------------
Now in cubase 64 it also works except for the midi part. But I did some internal suming of the multitrack drums and I had every drum part on a different channel.

Let me know where you need help. It works for me and I'll be happy to help.

Shalom!

O.K. I got it working on my C5 32bit.
My fault, I overlooked to set the right midi input, thanks to the Steinberg support.

To clearly summarize GA3, "live to host", works on WIN7 64bit,
with a installed C5 32 bit version

It works currently not with a C5 64bit.

I really wonder when it will work ? I dont want to switch between two C5 versions.

Thanks for the response

Heinz

FSalomon...

Thank you for your continued input into this topic. As with heinz44, I am hoping that a fix for the C5 64 bit in Windows 7 comes soon. Your work around is a noble one but one that simply will not work for the work that I do. These folks at Steinberg are smart. I have to believe they'll pull this rabbit out of the hat. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will be soon.

I hear ya.

Some songs don't require me to have a midi file.
So, sometimes I stay in Cubase64bit to work with the audio file of the ga3 drums.
Sometimes there is nothing to correct. All I have to do is save the different variations of the drum style
on the memory buttons and then recall them live as i record it to my project. Don't forget to activate all outputs in the F11 window and then assigning
the drum parts to different channels (1 -8 ) and then route the vst tracks to the 8 audio tracks that you create (since there is no record buttons for the ga3 vst instrument tracks).

So most of the time I stay with cubase64 and use the arranger track to reorganize my drum variations.

I'm sure there will be a fix soon about this, but really, some folks don't need the midi file, so it's not that much of a deal for them, especially when you can save your preset in ga3.

Shalom!

You make a good point, FSalomon. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who are pure or mostly audio and could care less about MIDI. In my case, I am 99.99% MIDI, and so not having the "live to host" working is a major problem for me. But, I have faith in Steinberg. If these folks can create Groove Agent 3, then I'm sure they can come up with a fix for the "live to host" problem in Windows 7 64-bit. The waiting, of course, is killing me.

Just Audible ...

Of course this is still a problem. You don't really think that Steinberg would be proactively taking care of their customers when they could just as easily sell them something that doesn't work and then let them twist slowly in the breeze with buggy programs while they have the customer's money in their pockets do you?!

Welcome to the world of Steinberg non-support ... or ... is it Yamaha non-support. Anyway ... I hope you enjoy twisting in the breeze. You'll get used to it. You'll have to.

Nope...I solved the problem, I'm buying a copy of superior drummer, looking around the forums I can see that this has been a problem for months yet other firms manage to get their software working in the 64 bit cubase world ..... I'm too old to wait for a solution from steinberg to support their long standing customers.

I hear ya, Just Audible. I, too, am one of the older composers. I just finished a film score, and will be working on another one shortly. I don't have the patience, and I definitely don't have the time for Steinberg to realize that if they don't do their job, the rest of us cannot do our job. I'm a professional. This is what I do. I don't compose, I don't pay the mortgage.

As you say, there ARE other avenues, including dropping Cubase altogether. Actually, Cubase 5, in my opinion, has been a total mess. It might be great for MAC users, but it is just plain awful for PC users. What's with that screen resizing everytime you bring up the mixer or the piano roll?!!! But, like I say...they don't care. It's a shame.

For me to say that Cakewalk support is better than Steinberg ... well, now THAT really IS saying something, and I in no way support Cakewalk, e.g. Sonar Producer has had a major audio click bug in it for year and years. The vendors in this industry just don't seem to care. I honestly don't see how they stay in business. In the IT world, they would have gone under by now.

Good luck with superior drummer. I'm hanging in there with Addictive Drums...at least until Steinberg realizes that they have a responsibility for their long-term customers and gets these myriad problems fixed. I've spent months studying Cubase via books and purchased video instruction, and so I'm not just someone who complains without first truly trying everything possible on my own first. Like I say...it's just a shame that they don't take as much pride in their products and really turn out superior software.
