Hi I have a new MIDI drumkit in my studio (Traps E440) . As my (single) MIDI input on my saffire 56 Audio interface is used for a keyboard I need to get another MIDI in.

I bought a MIDI to USB cable from Ebay. It did not come with a munfactures name but sports a trble clef as a logo. What I have found out is thaqt it does not work out of the box with my Win 7 64 bit PC. I think this is a device driver issue and wonder if anyone could help me find the deivce driver (its somewhere in system devices but where?) or find some other way of solving the issue.

I posted before but did not get resolution

Any ideas please?

Does your keyboard have a Midi Thru socket ?
If you could put all your Midi devices through the same input on your Saffire interface it would eliminate any driver and asio conflicts to start with .
Failing that find a Midi junction box which you could connect all your Midi devices to and then run the single output from the box into the Midi input of the Saffire .
Failing THAT , get a Cakewalk UM-1G or 2G (or 3G) , they work with Windows 7 x64 .

If you can't tell which of the USB devices in the Windows Device Manager might be using an out-of-date driver ,then why not update them all ? (Right-click each entry in turn and select update driver ) !

Yeah, sounds like it may be a driver issue. In my own experience with my Aardvark Q10 sound card having only one midi In/Out and my Alesis keyboard is plugged in to that...when I want to plug in my customized Yamaha DTXpress drum kit, I have to either swap the midi cables to my drum kit, or connect via a mini serial cable (both on the drum module and my motherboard) but I must have the special Yamaha drivers to make this work, and it works great.
Another solution I use is that I bought a 2nd Aardvark sound card, an Aark 24 which uses the same drivers as my Q10 and I just plug the e-drum kit's module via midi into that and leave my keyboard's midi in my Q10...this way I don't have to switch midi cables or switch between my Aardvark & Yamaha drivers...which wouldn't be THAT bad as my midi usages are not so busy. In addition the use of both cards by a single manufacturer (which Aardvark supports - or did since they're now out of business - up to 4 simultanious cards) gives me BUTTLOADS of audio inputs so I can leave eveything I own plugged in and ready to go.

thanks all, I( might just go and buy the cakewalk, but vI think its a driver issue on my present gener4ic USB/MIDI cable.

"Why don't I just update them all?"

Becuase I think Windows has installed a 32 bit driver and this is the problem. If I just update then it will update the 32 bit driver. I heard soemwhere on the net you must first delete the driver then find using windows. I dont want to do this tyo the wrong driver so I need to be able to track it down somehow.

Maybe just go out and spend $60 or $70 on a Midisport 2x2? Problem solved! Cool mm
