Sorry but the in app help is more confusing than helpful. It might be nice if there was a manual to go along with it but alone....not very helpful.
I am sorry they put so much time and effort into the help system, but they should have thought it out well or even run it by some customers first. Anyone who decides that the manual would be worthless and a nice in app help system is a great replacement really does not live in the real world. It is beyond my wildest imagination that Steinberg would even consider producing a deep program like Wavelab and not provide at least a pdf manual.
Thanks for the 6 to 7 guide I will read it and see if it helps. Still waiting for a manual though. _________________ Custom PC with Asus MB M3A78-CM, AMD Quad 4 940 3.1Ghz, 8 G ram, 4 HDs at 750 G each, win 7, Win Vista 64 home, and Win XP home, dual monitors, Cubase 5.5, Wavelab essentials 6, Soundforge 9, CD Archetect, Ozone 4, Melodyne Plugin, Autotune evo, AVOX, Addictive Drums, HSO, Outer Limits, Vocaloid Miriam, T-racks, Amplitube 3, liquid mix, Sampletank 2, Focusrite Saphire pro 40, IK multimedia ARC, Frontier Alphatrack, KRK monitors, Bigknob, Emu PK6, Microkorg, Aphex C2, DBX 166, Voicetone correct, voicetone double, voicetone create, Digitech RP500, POD, 100 miles of cables and a room full of guitars. |

For the record - I am not discounting the help system - it's just that it's not the way I learn or I am ever going to learn. I also do not particularly care how much effort went it to it and why that keeps getting brought up. It's there for folks that want to use that sort of thing.
For folks like me - who prefer very very detailed analysis, being shown the process, the pretty pictures and and most importantly - being able to read this wherever I want - a real manual is critical.
Not to mention it's a 600 dollar app, full manuals have been the norm forever and that V7 is a quantum leap over the way v6 looked and behaved - it's only natural to expect the real deal. If I was a Mac user - I would be more than p****d about this...those guys get nothing....

It would also be nice to get something on the sonnox plugs...not sure what I am doing with them to tell the truth. Is this coming soon or available somewhere else?
update I see that now in the 6 to 7 guide...cool thanks!
uhh am I seeing things or are some pages repeated in several places? _________________ Custom PC with Asus MB M3A78-CM, AMD Quad 4 940 3.1Ghz, 8 G ram, 4 HDs at 750 G each, win 7, Win Vista 64 home, and Win XP home, dual monitors, Cubase 5.5, Wavelab essentials 6, Soundforge 9, CD Archetect, Ozone 4, Melodyne Plugin, Autotune evo, AVOX, Addictive Drums, HSO, Outer Limits, Vocaloid Miriam, T-racks, Amplitube 3, liquid mix, Sampletank 2, Focusrite Saphire pro 40, IK multimedia ARC, Frontier Alphatrack, KRK monitors, Bigknob, Emu PK6, Microkorg, Aphex C2, DBX 166, Voicetone correct, voicetone double, voicetone create, Digitech RP500, POD, 100 miles of cables and a room full of guitars.

For the record - I am exactly like you, if not worse. The reason I posted was that I realized for the first time that "if it ain't there, find another way". I would always brood if things didn't go exactly how I wanted it go. I would find the littlest faults with everything and blame it for my unhappiness and my not being "able to go on" (family members standing around my death bed with my backhand over my forehead) even if there was another way or a work around. I've learned the hard way. That's gonna get you no where. I figured I'd try the help system because it's there and it has the information I need to help me get the job done. Now I move on. Please don't take this as a swipe on any of you guys. I just thought I'd share my moment with you.

I looked in the pdf (getting into the details) and could not find it. But it is there in the new 6 to 7 guide
If you are talking about the in app help sorry I don't use those. (if that is the only way to find out about this program then I don't want the program) _________________ Custom PC with Asus MB M3A78-CM, AMD Quad 4 940 3.1Ghz, 8 G ram, 4 HDs at 750 G each, win 7, Win Vista 64 home, and Win XP home, dual monitors, Cubase 5.5, Wavelab essentials 6, Soundforge 9, CD Archetect, Ozone 4, Melodyne Plugin, Autotune evo, AVOX, Addictive Drums, HSO, Outer Limits, Vocaloid Miriam, T-racks, Amplitube 3, liquid mix, Sampletank 2, Focusrite Saphire pro 40, IK multimedia ARC, Frontier Alphatrack, KRK monitors, Bigknob, Emu PK6, Microkorg, Aphex C2, DBX 166, Voicetone correct, voicetone double, voicetone create, Digitech RP500, POD, 100 miles of cables and a room full of guitars. |

@wizardofice:
When the plugin is open and has the focus, just press F1 and the help opens at the right page.
If you don't like to read this on screen, there is a print option.
The same chapter can be found in the PDF. _________________ Philippe |

I looked in the pdf but didn't find it there...I did find it in the 6 to 7 pdf though thanks!
I did just now look in the help menu in the app....quite different from the pdf supplied to us. Why can't we get a pdf version of this? Or is there an option to print from wavelab? _________________ Custom PC with Asus MB M3A78-CM, AMD Quad 4 940 3.1Ghz, 8 G ram, 4 HDs at 750 G each, win 7, Win Vista 64 home, and Win XP home, dual monitors, Cubase 5.5, Wavelab essentials 6, Soundforge 9, CD Archetect, Ozone 4, Melodyne Plugin, Autotune evo, AVOX, Addictive Drums, HSO, Outer Limits, Vocaloid Miriam, T-racks, Amplitube 3, liquid mix, Sampletank 2, Focusrite Saphire pro 40, IK multimedia ARC, Frontier Alphatrack, KRK monitors, Bigknob, Emu PK6, Microkorg, Aphex C2, DBX 166, Voicetone correct, voicetone double, voicetone create, Digitech RP500, POD, 100 miles of cables and a room full of guitars. |

@wizardofice; I think there is a missunderstanding:
1) There is no Sonnox stuff in the 6 to 7 pdf, unlike what you say. The 6 to 7 guide is only 7 pages long.
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/WaveLab_7/WaveLab_6_to_7_FAQ.pdf
2) The sonnox is in the PDF doc, page 328 eg. for the Denoiser, easy to find.
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/WaveLab_7/Manuals/WaveLab-en-7.pdf
>I did just now look in the help menu in the app....
>quite different from the pdf supplied to us.
>Why can't we get a pdf version of this?
The PDF file mentionned in #2 above is word to word the in-application Help, under a "linear form" (from the Help menu).

I really hope database feature get's re-added.
This for me, searching large sfx libraries was a nice and integrated way to work, not sure how many other folks used this though as it's task specific.
RE: Manual
I came from sound forge to wave lab, and without the original manual, I think I would still be looking for features. As soon as I update I will have a good try with the online help, and I am sure when I require an in application use it will be great, but does not sound like it's going to be so useful when trying to understand the concept of something from the top down.
Anyway time will tell, looking forward to upgrading even though it sounds like, at least in the short term, version 6 will still be in heavy use.
Cheers,

The 'boxed' version of WL7 I ordered has still not arrived and I have just cancelled the order.
If a full user manual is produced I will buy it - until then (if it ever happens) I'm sticking with WL6 _________________ i7 Quad core, 2.66khz, 15GB ram, Windows-7 64-bit, Nuendo-5 64-bit, MR816 x 5, UAD-2 Quad. |

+ 1 for a proper manual.
However comprehensive the 'help' pdf is, it isn't the same thing at all.
I'd say it's especially important for all those Mac users coming to WL for the first time. |

Hello,
not sure if this answers your questions, but there are buttons below the waveform presentation
where you can change the views. WaveLab Elements doesn't include the Spectrum view and all
spectrum related editing functions.
Thanks,

In the lower-left corner of the waveform view you should see 3 register tabs called Waveform/Spectrum/Loudness.
Seperately this is also available for the Overview window. |

I don't seem to have this. There are location information on the right side under the waveform in the wave edit window but nothing on the left side. Is there something you have to set to get this to come up? Can someone maybe post a screenshot. I have WL7 (full version for PC) and this is a standard function which is always visible (you can't switch it off), but it's only available in the wav window (not in audio montage).
See this picture from Steinberg's website (3 tabs on the lower-left, currently switched to Spectrum view):
http://www.steinberg.net/index.php?eID=tx_cms_showpic&file=uploads%2Fpics%2FSpectrum_Editor_01.png&width=800m&height=600m&bodyTag=%3Cbody%20style%3D%22margin%3A0%3B%20background%3A%23fff%3B%22%3E&wrap=%3Ca%20href%3D%22javascript%3Aclose%28%29%3B%22%3E%20%7C%20%3C%2Fa%3E&md5=8b0f2ba5b438d5e807dad9bb040e2ebf
Could it be that you have WL7 Elements version (not the full version) ?
I don't know if these features are available in Elements version.
Otherwise I can't help anymore since I'm also just a user. _________________ ===================================================================

WaveLab Elements as the 3D spectrum analysis, has the Spectroscope as real time meter, but the Spectrogram view is not part of it, this is reserved to the Pro version. Hence there is certainly a manual issue to fix. _________________ Philippe |

The old manual was fantastic. Detailed, intelligently written, well designed.
For me the new system is a pain.
A .pdf for an ebook reader would have been ok, but I don't like the new system because the old TEXT was better/more detailed.
Enter time stretch into the new help system and you get a couple of sentences worth of information.
The old manual had 4,5 PAGES for the same topic.
Disappointig, especially since I return to WL (because of the mac transition) after years and need to catch up a bit.....

Not asking about the 3 d spectrum asking about the waveform view in the wave window also on page 51 under Audio file editing waveform views it tell that you can use 3 different waveform views.....wave and loudness......
but it doesn't tell how to see either of the two (3?) how does this work? there are no tabs and no way to choose. Is the documentation incorrect or is there another way to find this? _________________ Custom PC with Asus MB M3A78-CM, AMD Quad 4 940 3.1Ghz, 8 G ram, 4 HDs at 750 G each, win 7, Win Vista 64 home, and Win XP home, dual monitors, Cubase 5.5, Wavelab essentials 6, Soundforge 9, CD Archetect, Ozone 4, Melodyne Plugin, Autotune evo, AVOX, Addictive Drums, HSO, Outer Limits, Vocaloid Miriam, T-racks, Amplitube 3, liquid mix, Sampletank 2, Focusrite Saphire pro 40, IK multimedia ARC, Frontier Alphatrack, KRK monitors, Bigknob, Emu PK6, Microkorg, Aphex C2, DBX 166, Voicetone correct, voicetone double, voicetone create, Digitech RP500, POD, 100 miles of cables and a room full of guitars. |

Hello,
not sure if this answers your questions, but there are buttons below the waveform presentation
where you can change the views. WaveLab Elements doesn't include the Spectrum view and all
spectrum related editing functions.
Thanks,

@wizardofice: what I tried to explain is that this feature is only in the pro version of WaveLab. _________________ Philippe |
