Hi all
My story:
Had a decent W7 64bit system going, but had audio drop-outs both during mixing and recording. I thought that this was due to the fact that my upgraded PC was now 1,5 years old, and maybe was due for change anyway. But then, I got to borrow a Mac Pro from a friend, and installed my MR816x and Cubase 5.5 on that, and everything worked sooooo soooo nice! No drop-outs or anything. Next thing we did was to go out and buy our own Mac Pro (8-core, 8GB Ram, 2TB, etc...) and set it up in our studio.
And this is where the problem started. The Mac Pro seems to have no interest in letting me use the MR816x, and returns only a sad message of "Failed to initialize" everytime I start the Mac. I use _ONLY_ latest drivers from the steinberg-site, and has the newest firmware for the MR816 itself.
Now, I checked the borrowed Mac, and that had OS X 10.5.7 on it....
Can the situation be that I actually need to downgrade the Mac in order to get the MR816 going, or are there known workaround for this problem? I am open for any suggestions now, as I only now own a $4000 paper-weight. |

Try the Steinberg Knowledge Base at the top right of this page ( Next to the Search , but not the Search itself ) , and select the MR from the Product Filter Search at the bottom.
(Lots of Mac stuff there I don't understand )

I don't know if you have any other FW devices hooked up, but sometimes the MR816 (or the n12) does not play well with others. I'm having no problems with 10.6.4, but I installed a separate pci card to handle all my other FW drives and the MR and n12 are alone on one buss
Hope that helps _________________ Cubase 5.5, Nuendo 3.2, MacPro 2 x 2.8 Quad Core, 6gb ram, OSX 10.6.4, MacBook Pro-OSX 10.6.4, UAD1 & 2, Yamaha n12, MR816 CSX, Motif XS8, Blue Robbie, etc... |

Thanks for replies!
Well, after talking to the shop where I bought the MR816x, they told me that the drivers will not work with 64 bit systems, so the soloution would be to boot in 32 bit mode (holding down the 3 and 2 key until the apple starts).
This worked for one time, then the problem came back...
But, since it worked one time, I was eager to get it going again, so I tried (shot in the dark) to turn of "Open using rosetta" on both the driver and the aplication itself... Somehow this solved the problem, and I am a happy stud-tech again |

just curious, as i've also noticed that you can only get it working in 32 bit.
where is this Rosetta option? and you tweaked this in 32 bit mode i'm guessing?
thank you _________________ Cubase 4.5.2

Yes, Fire...
in 32-bit mode.
Be sure that you actually are in 32-bit mode by checking AppleIcon-About This Mac-More Info-Software, and see that the "64-bit kernel and extensions"is at "No".
we'll, then I got to the driver itself via the finder: Aplications-Yamaha-YamahaFWCM and right-clicked that one and un-checked the rosetta thingy.
problem gone for my part, but still eager to get the 64-bit drivers... We're probably going to use a lot more soft-synths and sample-libraries soon, so I would very much like to get to use the rest of our RAM, plus the other dude at our studio claims that some recording-problems in Logic are solved with the 64-bit version, but they'll have a snowball-fight in hell before I convert to Logic, amen. _________________ Mac Pro (8-core Xenon, 8GB RAM) OSX 10.6.4
