| Quote: | Bieber wins 4 AMAs, including artist of year

Usher was in tears after losing two awards at the American Music Awards to Justin Bieber, including favorite entertainer of the year, the top AMA honor.
But Usher wasn't upset about his loss — far from it. Instead, he was welling with pride over the success of his young protege, Justin Bieber, who was the night's biggest winner with four awards and the youngest performer ever to capture the entertainer award.
Bing: More young award winners
"To see Justin take the award — having received that award before — it was like an out of body experience, you understand?" Usher said backstage. "It was emotional. I don't cry that often, but I did. Hopefully it gives an indication of how hard we worked to build a career that hopefully will flourish and blossom over the years."
Bieber, who is signed to Usher's label, had a perfect debut at the American Music Awards, winning all four awards he was nominated for: entertainer of the year, breakthrough artist of the year, favorite pop/rock male and favorite pop/rock album for "My World 2.0."
Bieber's debut album is one of the year's top-sellers, with almost two million sold, and he's got a new CD, "My Worlds Acoustic," out this week at Walmart. His ascension marks a phenomenal rise since first garnering attention via homemade videos on YouTube about three years ago.
"This means the world to me," said Bieber after winning breakthrough artist. "I come from the smallest town in the world, of like 30,000 people; I never thought this was possible." |
Barely a stain out of his daddy's underwear Good thing these awards mean nothing _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

I figured you'd be thrilled, Zap.
He's one of your fellow travelers - you know - kinda cool....kinda catchy.....
Like Daughtry with hair.
None of that -weird, progressive. just wanking and showing off his impressive chops- for him.
He's playing what the people wanna hear.

I'm a bit torn over JB.
Firstly he's a young Canadian kid from just down the road from where we live and any Canadian success story these days is rare indeed.
He also seems like a pretty regular kid and actually his original youtube vids are of him just strumming an acoustic guitar and singing regular kind of stuff without the hype and all the big rap and rnb people who have been turning him into Junior Justin Timberlake. He's a kid and has no control over the musical side of things and his mother who does have some control is happy that he's become this teen icon and not worried that he will probably be around as long as Hanson were, and in 2 or 3 years, he will be burnt out and old hat, so long as he is coining it in right now.
That haircut really has to go - mind you, people hated on The Beatles for the same reasons ... (bubblegum pop and moptop haircuts, until they had been successful long enough to dictate to the record company how it was going to be, instead of the other way around). _________________ Dell XPS 1530 laptop, Core2Duo 2.1 Ghz, 4 GB ram, Vista Ultimate 32 SP2, Nvidia 8600M, Alesis IO14 FW, Cubase 5.5.2, Ableton Live 7.0.18 Suite, Sony Soundforge 9, Sonalksis Essentials mkII bundle, various devices/controllers |

We live in a disposable society. Only us old farts live on to make everybody else miserable.
I think a change of terminology is in order. What used to be the music industry has now become the entertainment industry. (Generally speaking). Music itself has become a different entity, known only to those who spend time on other planets. _________________

haha... i still laught about the bitter old fart statement ...
it is so true.
I am on that trip myself .. but in concsious moments I realize that there is not quality as such, never has been. It is always a subjective thing, changing over times. Not event he "disciplines" could be separated clearly (music, entertainment, painting, etc. etc.).
Who cares!
In the meantime I continue being a bitter old fart and will definitely enjoy it ! Who on earth thinks that one human being has to have one consitstent mindset?

To each their own I don't think "pop music" or derivatives of it need to be seen a a 'bad' thing, JUST because it's popular....as many seem to indicate. Though it depends on your own definition of pop I guess...??? Popular could be gum-ball/kiddie music, easy listening, to hard rock, etc, etc, etc.
Me, I either like something or I don't it's that simple. The song could have 3 chords with fewer notes, more complicated with lotus' notes, slow, fast, popular or not, my liking of any given music won't be based on these preconceived factors. I just happen to like much of what I've heard on the radio since The Beatles in the early 60's. Sure, I've heard a lot of less popular/little known music... much of it I don't like, but occasionally I'll love it.
As for Justin Bieber (gumball/kiddie music) being "Artist Of The Year" with so much other great music and musicians out there ...what is this world coming to But all this artist of the year stuff is just a popularity contest and apparently based on what young girls like, which seem to be the largest buying demographic.
I'm just gettin' too damn EFFing old to care about what's popular or not _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

I never watch the Grammys, MTV Music Awards, Much Music Awards (in Canada, this is the equivalent of the MTV awards), Brit Awards, or AMAs because the whole thing is just about a bunch of teenage orientated RNB and Pop with the token other (see Taylor Swift) genre thrown in, most of which are 21 years or under singing for 12 years olds.
Given that I am long past that demographic, there is nothing worth seeing or hearing in those awards ceremonies.
Music is in a pretty sorry state these days. There are still the odd band or artist worth hearing, but you are looking for the needle in the haystack really. You can blame this on the major labels, who do not take risks any more, signing up fewer artists than ever before and almost all of them in the pop/rnd/hip hop categories and dropping anyone who isn't an instant success as quick as they can. In times gone by, most artists were at least given a bit of time and sometimes a few singles or a couple of albums to get established and be successful before being dropped. People like David Bowie would never have made a name for themselves in this day and age. _________________ Dell XPS 1530 laptop, Core2Duo 2.1 Ghz, 4 GB ram, Vista Ultimate 32 SP2, Nvidia 8600M, Alesis IO14 FW, Cubase 5.5.2, Ableton Live 7.0.18 Suite, Sony Soundforge 9, Sonalksis Essentials mkII bundle, various devices/controllers |

The little tyke is playing in Toronto tonight, so we can change Gridlock (traffic is always bad downtown anyway) to Kidlock!
For those looking for something new and more mature, you might want to check out http://www.npr.org/series/tiny-desk-concerts/
Lots of interesting non mainstream acts there!
