Hello all
A long time user of VST32 5.
A couple of times, I've run into the problem of running out of "audio/mixer channels" when trying to run certain VST plugins.
Message I get (trying to remember, since I deleted Reason) is " No more mixer channels"
Is there any way to change or get more of those "audio/mixer channels"? Some .ini file I need to adjust?
I realise that Rewire takes up a number of Rewire channels when using Rebirth and or Reason.
But how does that interfere with my VST plugins?
Update: 11-23-2010
It seems that doing a search here doesn't work the way it should. I had put in a phrase and NOTHING came up, more than once. I put in ONE word and it works.
So I have managed to bring up some threads about this issue using keyword "rewire".
Now,.... If ONLY I could find a certain "solution" that is/WAS being touted around to REDUCE the number of REASON REWIRE Channels.
Anyone have a link to it?
Thanks for any help. _________________ I was an old member here but could not remember my SN (probably same one), and always use the same email. Guess not being active deleted my old account.

Your 'rewire' clients will use up mixer channels even if the client is not active.
To solve this you need to do one of four things:
1) uninstall unwanted rewire clients that are hogging your channels
2) reinstall them as non-rewire versions (eg fruityloops lets you choose)
3) move off of Cubase and onto another DAW that does not have hard-coded mixer channel limits.
4) rename rewire.dll as something like rewire_old.dll - Cubase will not then load any rewire mixing channels (but you wont be able to use rewire in Cubase).
Also, if you are a 'bit short' of channels, then load up VST instrument versions that use fewer channels - eg Kontakt has 2, 8, 16 channel VST versions you can choose from.
But there is no configuration file/setting that will increase your mixer channel numbers. They are hard-coded in the software sorry!!
A bit more background here:
http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=92554&highlight=mixer+channels
It 'interferes' with your VST plugins because the VST plugins also need mixer channels (2 for stereo, 64 for a bigger more complex mutli-instrument plug in). IF rewire has already reserved a number of your mixer channels, the plug ins will not be able to load, because they can not reserve enough mixer channels. _________________ www.l-music.co.uk |

Thank you LOW99
I do understand and am aware of all that.
BUt I have also read that there is or was some patch for Reason NOT to take up all 64 Channels. It would limit it to 16-18 if I recall correctly.
I would prefer that patch if some user still has it please? _________________ I was an old member here but could not remember my SN (probably same one), and always use the same email. Guess not being active deleted my old account.

Hm, if I remember right the patch should be located in a folder within the Reason folder. If you move it into the Reason folder directly Reason should become less greedy. _________________ www.steinberg.net |

Thank you Mr. Bruns.
Now, to what version are you referring to, cause I see no such thing in Reason 5 or Reason 4.
Could it be Reason 3?
Thanks in advance. _________________ I was an old member here but could not remember my SN (probably same one), and always use the same email. Guess not being active deleted my old account.

Sorry, I really don't remember! It might also be Reason 1 or 2. It's years ago is all I know. If no one here can shed some light I'm afraid you have to refer to Propellerhead. _________________ www.steinberg.net |

Wow..that far back?
Anyone have that patch and can post it here please?
In the meantime, I will contact Propellerheads and see if they can put their thinking cap on and make it spin.
