Well, I just had a look myself now... curious to see what all the fuss is about. It really is quite dreadful. Appallingly bad in my opinion. The stuff I watched pretty much encapsulates everything I don't like in much of today's 'pop'. And I also realise we're completely the wrong demographic - it was never intended for the likes of us - I guess you'd have to be a be 12-year old girl to have any hope of seeing anything of value in this. Highly consumable regurgitated teen-pop cliche's. Here today...gone tomorrow. _________________ Black Sands Music

You haven't taught a bunch of 10 year old girls then
I was just laid off as a teacher, and trust me 9/10 girls aged 9-13 go nuts for this guy. Well, I just went and listened to a youtube of him. My thoughts were: 1) He reminded me a little bit vocally of the early Michael Jackson (ABC, etc.), 2) This is NOT for me!, but 3) I'm of the age that I probably would have been one of those parents who thought the Beatles were horrid, corrupting, and musically irrelevant.
If he's as popular as the Beatles were, or something like that, good for him! They started fairly primitively, musically (Misery, Love Me Do), and wound up being pretty good songwriters. You never know where this guy will wind up, or what he'll contribute ...
P.S. Leedsquietman ... I'm sorry to hear about that. You are a good guy, you've helped me out over the years just out of kindness. Good guys will always do well, by the measuring stick that really matters. Hang in there, dude. _________________ Alexis

Taught/teach the girls and the boys and yes the haters tend to be the boys.

Given that I am long past that demographic, there is nothing worth seeing or hearing in those awards ceremonies.
Music is in a pretty sorry state these days. There are still the odd band or artist worth hearing, but you are looking for the needle in the haystack really. You can blame this on the major labels, who do not take risks any more, signing up fewer artists than ever before and almost all of them in the pop/rnd/hip hop categories and dropping anyone who isn't an instant success as quick as they can. In times gone by, most artists were at least given a bit of time and sometimes a few singles or a couple of albums to get established and be successful before being dropped. People like David Bowie would never have made a name for themselves in this day and age.
|
I look at things a little differently ...music is not dead, nor in a sorry state, never was/is/will be IMO... I don't only look at what OTHERS like, but only what I like. I don't watch these show for the same reason as you, just not interested in what's 'in' for the most part. If there is anything at all I like that is, then that's fine. I surely do NOT hold onto all the music I listened to in high school like many my age....at least not all of it, more so my tastes have moved on to artists of more recent years.
There's still PLENTY of music out there for EVEYONE's likes...whether it be more current music or the same old stuff they've listened to in highschool - and you may as well bring out your bell bottom jeans and tie dye T-shirts while you're at it. _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

I honestly haven't even heard the kid myself really, except for a matter of seconds at a time from some of the exposure he's got on TV here and there. I don't think he's as bad as you say, though I don't like it either. From what I've seen and heard, he's a cute kid, has a decent voice for his age, has presence and is likable in his interviews. Of course little girls are going to be into that. As for everyone else who's not into it, we can either appreciate the fact that he's got it 'going on' for others, or HATe him for achiveing what he has because we feel there are others who are far more deserving - which there are of course but I don't hold that against the kid. I mean SOME people even like the show "GLEE" how eFFing GAY is THAT!

The fact that The Beatles in their early years were somewhat "primitive" musically, didn't and still doesn't like them any less. In fact I LOVE the early Beatles (with their OWN music not the Hamburg/black music cover tune years) "love me do, yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanna hold you're hand" etc, etc...all great catchy tunes. Music is in the eye of the beholder, for me it's abouyt a nice catchy listenable song, it's sounds, it's melody and nearly never how many chords and notes can fit into a few minutes or how impressive the players can be..I'm just (edited for NOT) impressed with musical ejaculation spurting out all over my face, but if I DO like some music that just HAPPENDS to have plenty of ejaculitory skills, then so be it... music being simple or not so simple has little effect on my likes or dislikes. To each their own. _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

Well surprise we have that in common, Zap -- the Beatles were never better than they were in 1963 and 1964 -- even Lennon thought so ( and they were world-chnagers after that). _________________ Core 2 Quad Q9550/8 GB RAM/Win 7 Home 64-bit/Cubase 5.1 32-bit AND 64-bit /Emu 1616m I/O/ UAD-1 (x2)

Hey Zap - preaching to the choir, bruthah! I may be certifiable re: the Lads from Liverpool. I'm in heaven recently, with all the youtubes where they have "isolated" each portion of their songs - "isolated" vocals, isolated guitars, isolated drums, etc. I think it may be a nice side effect of RockBand? I actually think the peak of The Beatles was Rubber Soul up to Magical Mystery Tour personally. So 65-67. Although I think that Sgt. Pepper is a bit overrated as an album, with 2 or 3 real filler tracks in among truly great songs such as With A Little Help From My Friends, A Day In The Life and Getting Better etc.
I thought that the White album was a disjointed and in some places an overly indulgent album, where it was obvious that the split was coming as the tracks sounded like they were from solo projects by Lennon/McCartney/Harrison (still there are some classic tracks such as Dear Prudence and While My Guitar Gently Weeps).
Abbey Road was excellent however, and sounded great (first album to be recorded deliberately for stereo and on 8 track, the others apart from some of Let It Be, were recorded on 4 track). Let It Be was definitely a mish mash and an after thought with wildly variable song quality, which Lennon feels was 'mostly junk and rescued from the bin by Phil Spector' while McCartney felt that 'Spector ruined the record'.
The fact is though, that The Beatles developed their sound and embraced technology and took an active role in the production of their records, but this was only possible BECAUSE they had the joker after selling millions of albums in their real mainstream POP beginnings. Some of this early material was quite good, but they improved as songwriters, musicians and arrangers with experience, which is natural. So if Bieber is still around in 3 or 4 years time and allowed to develop his material without too much studio interference, he could evolve into a more respectable artist. _________________ Dell XPS 1530 laptop, Core2Duo 2.1 Ghz, 4 GB ram, Vista Ultimate 32 SP2, Nvidia 8600M, Alesis IO14 FW, Cubase 5.5.2, Ableton Live 7.0.18 Suite, Sony Soundforge 9, Sonalksis Essentials mkII bundle, various devices/controllers |

LOL that was supposed to read NOT impressed with musical ejaculation...that's what I get for not bothering to proof read myself As for disturbing, well...that's me
Regarding any HOPE for JB's future, no..but for now he's filling a need for little girls to have something to latch onto, which translates into $$$ for the business sure. Flash in the pan, but he'll be able to say it's better to be a 'has-been' than a 'never-was' _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

I'm not surprised to have anything in common, afterall, we are both human no? I know I am anyway As for the Beatles being at their best in the early years...this just go's to show, that even though they may have got better over the years in terms of musicianship... simplicity, a nice melody & just a generally good likable song rules over how impressive a player can be. Me, I try to never forget this as I become more advanced and overall a better musician & songwriter. Sure I can 'play fast', I can 'play lotsa notes', lots a different chords' ...BUT, I just don't have to blow my musical wad in anyone's face all at once in everything I do....but instead a spurt at a time Glyn recently gave me a nice compliment and said something to the effect of having "power under the hood" and using that power when called for ...or not using it... anyway, this compliment pretty much sums up how I 'personally feel' about music. To love The Beatles early years, is to love simplicity... and "Love Me Do" I do _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

I wouldn't diagree with this, but there are individual preferences for The Beatles .... as for JB...It's not that the kid can't evolve into a serious respectable artist, but more likely he may not be able to overcome how 'others' will have come to know/view him as. Never know, Michael Jackson went well beyond being just a member of The Jackson 5, which was frowned upon by some.
Mainstream pop tradditionally sells...because I think the masses love simple and readily identifiable music. Like a good salesman knows, you only have a small window of opportunity to catch someone's attention, and artists who have become popular seem to know this. I don't think that one should do music they don't like however just to be popular...or be a sell-out as they say. _________________ VST 32/5.1 W.L. 3.0 Aardvark Q10/Aark 24 Cards ASUS P5KC MB Q9300 CPU 4GBRam WinXP 3 Seagate HDD's Gigabyte Radeon PCIe dual Video 2 Sony 17" Trinitrons CD/DVD-RW Logitech Cordless Keyboard/Mouse

Didn't the "The Hollies" made more nr 1 hits then "The Beatles" in that time ? At least they are still together, and use our products for the recordings

I was sure I read that Paul McCartney uses Cubase or Nuendo. Seriously! _________________ Core 2 Quad Q9550/8 GB RAM/Win 7 Home 64-bit/Cubase 5.1 32-bit AND 64-bit /Emu 1616m I/O/ UAD-1 (x2)

There was a video posted the other month that showed McCartney sitting behind Cubase recording more of his inane music _________________ Split V4.5.2 The Devil is in the detail |

And they're touring down this way early 2011... might be worth checking out. My mates band is also the opening act... so two reason to go to the show! _________________ Black Sands Music

Well, I don't know about this Beeber dude. Probably heard his music without knowing it. Hell, may have even danced to it without knowing it. Doesn't matter to me as long as the music is in eights and I am freed up to make a dance that the lady will enjoy. I know what side my bread is buttered on!
But I'm feeling a lot of bad vibes here from people here who often seem to be otherwise open-minded. It doesn't fit you fellas. Just sayin.
I also remember a lot of musicians got all indignant about Christina Aguilera some years ago. Maybe it was bubblegum and maybe it was meaningless. But I just saw her perform on Dancing With the Stars recently. I could have done a great foxtrot to that one song. She has really developed as an artist and as a musician. There is some superb talent here, but her development had NOTHING to do with what the forum members on Cubase.net thought or said.
Food for thought. Make your own path and you will find your own happiness. What other people do should have no bearing on YOU. Unless you allow it.
Have a great day! _________________
