| How can I stop the effects tab to open every time I move a clip about? I am not so wealthy with screen space, and I don't need effects on a clip a this stage, how do I make it disappear permanently? |

I don't see what you mean (don't happen here). _________________ Philippe |

In most of those tab areas of the workspace there is a close gadget, along the right hand "tear off" border (for tools like effects, there is also a front/back gadget below the close gadget that pops the window out of the frame/workspace and makes it standalone).
I suspect you've popped your effects tab into a standalone window, causing it to move to front when clips are selcted. In this case, drag it back to the part of the workspace you want it and let it reintegrate with your tab bar. If it's already in your tab bar but never used, click the close-gadget, which will make it go away entirely, until you need it.
Does that help? |

No it isn't in a standalone window, which is why it steals me space from the montage tab.
This is on Mac, perhaps it is a Mac issue? |

I am not really sure what you mean, but if the effects tab is disturbing you I would at first untick the effects card (in german under: Arbeitsbereich->Arbeitsbereichspezifische Werkzeuge->Effekte).
Does this help?

I'm on mac... If I don't want to look at effects, I click the close gadget in the effects' tab where open in montage. To do this, I select the "Effects" tab, then on the left hand strip of the workspace, immediately next to the Effects window itself. Poof! Gone for good.

Alternately go to the menu Workspace:Specific Tool Windows/ and de-select "Effects" window there. Again, it's gone and stays hidden. Either works fine.
What are we missing? |

I think I know what is happening: When the mouse rests only a short moment above the name of a clip, a box appears saying "No effects, activate effects window" or similar in English. This often happens without me actually noticing. A click then activates the effects window.
Is there a way to disable this box altogether? It is driving me nuts... |

Disable right-click on your mouse... that's the root of this - you're right-clicking is calling effects up, after you've manually turned them off by closing the window... once you release with that option, it "takes" and a new effects window opens. I don't see it because I don't have a right-clickable mouse, I have to use the control-key to get that stuff to show up!

I can see the little pop up which appears if you rest the mouse on the clip name for a short while ("Kein Effekt / Effektfenster aktivieren"). But the effects tab only opens (at least here) if I explicitely press on "Effektfenster aktivieren". A single click on the clip name however opens another little box which allows you to add effects. If you click on this option, then the effects tab opens. But I can't really see how any of these options can happen by mistake.

+1 for Lutz,
I don't see the point of blaming WL if one right-clicks where he shouldn't.
And +1 for PG. _________________ Windows Vista sp1, Athlon X2 64, 4GB ram, 512MB ATI video card. |
