I've created some DVD-audio projects in the past with Wavelab 6. Today I tried to create one with Wavelab 7.00 (and 7.01 on Windows 7). Everything goes well until the moment I start writing. The length of the montage makes no difference. Even if I try to create an iso image first. The temp-folders and files are created correctly.
But the message in the end is still the same: Operation has failed! Before that dialog appear, another message box appears very short. I'm not able to read it.
Any idea?

Independently from this, can you burn a data CD?

What output path do you have set for the DVD-A?

The output path for writing the dvd files and structure is E:\TEMPAUDIO\
The output path for creating an iso is also E:\TEMPAUDIO\
Because of your question, I've tried other paths, but it doesn't solve the problem.

You can't use the same path for creating the DVD-Audio files, and the ISO files.

Well, I used a different path for writing the iso file. But I'm still getting the same error. To burn a disc that way is also not possible.

I have no clue then.
Did you try creating a very simple DVD-A? one montage with one track?

As suggested, I tried a simple audio montage with one stereo track. Works fine. But also other audio montages are going well: longer, complicater, multichannel.
But when does it go wrong? One of the custom options triggers the error I think. I changed everytime one thing, then burned and write a iso image. It's going wrong when I change the Album name from Untitled into something else containing a dot. When I remove the dot, everything works fine.

As a complement, the presence of the following characters would cause the same problem: \ " % & ' * , . / : ; < > ? |
This will be fixed in next version.
