I assume Cubase 6 will bring us moveable frozen VSTi parts.

Imagine you are outside in winter and put your tongue on an iron pole, you would be frozen too. Able to move? Certainly not....

And in this consolidated situation Steinberg gives technical advice: RTFM.

There was a thread asking for multi ASIO support, I couldn´t find it

I requested there also for a quite esoteric new function, which was the input channels to operate as a separate application with the minimum latency possible, while the project was running at a bigger buffer.

Then Tones dynamic freeze. A nice request. Makes sense from a ergonomic point of view.

Nevertheless, like the previous request, with computers running at staggering speeds nowadays, perhaps the devs don´t take them as priorities.

Now these two following request are definitely something to think about:
Still better plugin management with custom indexation. SX3 was better on this department, IMO.
Also the ability to customize the contextual menu, mainly the hierarchy of functions would be the cherry on top. Pray

Thanks.

Well, I'd suggest that - however fast your (real-world) computer is - it'll always be possible to create a (real-world) cpr file that requires something more powerful, sooner or later. (Sooner for users of huge sample libraries.) So something that helps reduce the burdon on the computer without imposing the restrictions current with frozen tracks might be welcome for some users of even the latest and greatest computers. I'm not arguing that Tones's request ought to be given high priority - just that the existence of fast PCs doesn't of itself invalidate the request.

Anyway, why do people say PCs are always getting faster? - Mine always stay the same speed. Laughing

You're having a Forest Gump moment? Wink

Agree on the Freeze thingie though. If we could have a transparent implementation and we could chop up the resulting parts and move them aroundit would be a way of future proving the computer a little. Not really but a little. It would be very fast and useful! Cool

Not sure how moveable freeze could be accomplaished. A frozen vsti track is essentially an audio file, even though you can't see the waveform. I don't see how moving the MIDI around without having to re-render the audio can be accomplished

naw ... but was that the idea ?Think

you could "link" or "lock" or "gang" or "strap" the frozen audio to the MIDI parts though.
We now have Regions that are parts of whole audio files?
Why not have Regions in Frozen files.

But maybe I don't see the problem because I seldom use Freezing ... due to the awkward resulting blobs of sound that are just stuck where you leave them.

Like turds in the snow ...

... I've heard! Embarassed

I thought Tony's chief gripe was that after he had frozen a vsti part, he couldn't subsequently for example insert a bar of 7/8 time into the piece if he wanted to, because this would necessitate the moving of the part, and you couldn't do that once a part was frozen

I probably misunderstood, however

I for one happen to think that the Freeze in C5 is pretty good. If you want to change something you can still copy the midi part to a different channel and make changes there.

I'd like to see:
- The return of the vocoder. Best would be with hardware support from the 816X for zero-latency
- Customizable plug-in/VI list, good idea that
- Option to choose for plain black print on white background in dialog boxes. For example, the history list looks sleek, but is not very ergonomical.
- Multiple audio device support. Or no make, that: MULTIPLE AUDIO DEVICES SUPPORT!!!
- Adjustable grid. It is infuriating to be stuck with 1/16ths when you're working in triplets or smaller denominations.

I wish that offline processing to get more sexier by making it compatible with track presets. Dancing

For those who question the how and why my moveable frozen VSTi part request, just search for my name and the word freeze, and see all the delightful information you will find, dating back to the very beginnings of this soon to be defunct forum!
