RIP John Lennon, its been 30 years since you've been gone.

and remember - "life is what happens to you, while you're busy making other plans ..."

take a minute to treasure the people you love and care about because anything can change in a flash, as John Lennon's death proved.

R.I.P. one of my all time idols and greatest songwriters of all time.

...and of course at the point of his untimely death ... "Nobody told me there'd be day's like these" d'oh!

Just saw the Beatles tribute band The Fab Four for the 3rd time on July at the Lodi grape festival here in California, they do a great job no just looking like them, but speaking and the mannerisms of t each of them, not to mention sounding more like The Beatles than The Beatles Shocked

Cool

Man, 30 years have gone by rather quickly, it seems... it least it seems it was not so long ago I heard Lennon was dead, and I stayed up all night listening to the radio as they played Beatles and Lennon tunes and reported the latest news on the murder. At the time, Lennon was my hero. Since then, I've developed a more sober assessment of the man, but an even greater appreciation for the actual music. Like so many popular music icons, Lennon's story is so tragic -- can somebody tell me why that is so?

the biggest sadness is that after a rough few years, he had just gotten his life back in order, loved being a dad, stopped letting drugs and alcohol dictate his life and stopped the wild partying, wrote some of his best songs since The Beatles, was at peace with himself and back in love with Yoko after leaving her in the mid 70s for a period of time.

After all the stress of the deportation hearings, issues with drugs and alcohol and having a period where he almost totally fell apart, he was in a renaissance. Then it was all over just like that and even though I was only 9 when he died, I was really sad because I had been listening to his albums with my dad since I was about 4 or 5.

One of the reasons why I love Lennon is because of his imperfections - he was never shy about admitting his own weaknesses and the media twisted a lot of stuff said by him.

Most of his songs are timeless and classic in my eyes at least.

Re: why Lennon's story is so tragic. Keith Richards said it best:

"Look what he gave the world and look what he got in return". 'Nuff said.

I also stayed up all night upon hearing the terrible news and listening to Beatles songs and Lennon songs on the radio. I remember staring at John's picture on my wall (remember the 8x10 pics that came with "The White Album"?) and crying my eyes out. Guess I'll put on "Imagine" and shed a few more tears, as I always do on this day.

Rock On, John. Cool

I still remember hearing Howard Cossell reporting on it.

RIP John. You were my favorite Beatle. You loved America, but it sure treated you badly.

You can't really blame America, just one whack-job really. Sad

I was talking about the government's campaign to kick him out of the country. I believe that it lasted seven years. It finally took a pardon from President Gerald Ford to allow him to stay. Once he came here, he never returned to England.

I knew I needed a history lesson, thanks for the info.... I wonder what he would have been like today? Senator?

It is difficult for me to accept the fact that two of the Beatles are gone. After the Vietnam war ended, John would have found another cause to *quiz* off the government. Maybe "Give Green a Chance". RIP.

Totally with you - and with no offence intended to the two remaining, those that have gone were my favourites.... They were the artsy ones, Paul and Ring are mostly the pop-men.

Ah well, hopefully if there's an after-life, perhaps we'll see that huge super-band again (John, George, Jimmy, Janice, etc.....), it just keeps getting bigger! Cool

I, too, stayed up all night 30 years ago and listened to his single albums.

This one, hit me like he wrote it for Chapman,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCucBWwCxCg
He forgives him..."don't you worry 'bout what you have done"
And he was a bit off on the date..."remember, the 5th of November", and then the loud blast...

I miss him and wonder what it would be like to have him with us.
