I am running C4 and am running into a lot of audio dropout issues. I have the latest drivers and updates to my VST's (BFD 2, Korg, NI). Is there a CPU improvement from C4 to C5? I am barely running any plugins and keep having this issue. The most common plugins I am runnings r the BFD and the Korg. Money is an issue so I would like to know if it is worth paying the upgrade price if theres no CPU performance upgrade.

c5 actually uses a little more cpu than 4.

what buffer setting are you running?

I'm trying all buffer setings. 512 is the one i have been using lately and I still get audio drops. I also turn off the vst's and that doesnt help either. I never had this issue with my desktop. I know my laptop isnt as powerful as my desktop but man... this is ridiculous. All I have to do is create a new project, import some audio tracks, throw in a couple of vsts synths and cpu overload. Im alwys using the same vsts: bfd 2, korg, and about 2 more synths, a max of 4 at a time. this sucks because I really cant afford to buy a desktop. I am running a fraction of what i ran on my desktop and I am constantly choking.

Open network interfaces and remove Bluetooth and Firewire interfaces.

But the trade-off is that it runs VST plug-ins more efficiently within the Snow Leopard environment...particularly regarding those requiring VST Bridge.

Korg and NI have updated all of their plugs which have improved their performance on SnowLeopard. I have no idea what state BFD is in. Are you running the latest 3rd party plug-in versions?
Is your Apogee driver up to date? Are you running any of your libraries off an external HD? All of these little tweaks make a difference in performance efficiency.

Because laptops don't have the same CPU headroom that desktops do, you may have to make some adjustments to improve playback. Freezing VSTi's usually improves things...particularly if you're still in the tracking stage. If you are mixing only, bumping your buffer over 512 as well as freezing things is going to help.

I have not frozen the tracks cuz I am still writing and rewriting but I have turned them off on the vst instrument page. dont know if that would have the same effect. I am running all latest plugin versions. Korg just released their update less than a month ago actually. Apogee has latest drivers too. I also tried deleting the network connections like the other guy suggested. nothing is being runoff external HD. From reading these comments maybe i should try updating to C5 first to see if that helps? maybe I should use the trial version first to see if there is any improvement. if not, then i may just have to buy an IMac... i need to play the lotto this week,

Lastest update is that nothing has gotten better. And I cant use the trial c5 because I downloaded it in Oct but didnt use it. So even though I didnt use it, I lost use of the activation code because it expired. And then support tells me that they wont give me another code because its only 1 code per dongle. That I need to buy a new elicense dongle just to get a new code to use the trial c5. And yes they can see my registration info which clearly shows that I never used it so its not a lie. Great customer support.

Did you remove the network interfaces as I suggested?
