I've given this some thought...
I fell in love with the combo of Dylan, Petty, Harrison and Orbison. [edited: 12/15] Yikes. How could I forget Jeff Lynne?

I think it's time we has a new band
with similar links and talent.
I'm dreaming, a bit, when I suggest:

McCartney
Jagger
Clapton
Justin Hayward
and Neil Young

Who would you like to see as the next Travelin' Wilburys?

Interesting question, posed at this late hour in the life of the Forum. To be honest, I think the lineup you propose who BLOW terribly -- they're very different musicians with incompatible sensibilities. Plus, they're OLD geezers.

Here's a TW lineup I'd like to see:

Connor Oberst
Carl Newman (of New Pornographers fame)
Jay Farrar
Maria McKee -- anybody remember her?

The first three are all great alt-country songwriters, and McKee is a great singer who, like Roy Orbison in the original TW, deserves a comeback

All right, I'll give it a go. I think Petty should return, Neil Young is a good choice as well. Bruce Springstein could potentially fit in quite well too, and John Cougar, lets not forget Willie Nelson. Why not have Dylan return too. It might be a good idea to have some sort of tribute group, with guest artists.

Tom Petty
Neil Young
Bruce Springstein
John Cougar
Willie Nelson
Bob Dylan
Bonnie Raitt............why not!

Some alchemies can't be reproduced. It's a kind of magic. I like the idea of figuring out a great line-up but the Wilburys were as much about personalities as musicianship.

We shall not see their like again. Or something Wink

I'd prefer to see that band name retired.

I'm embarrassed to have left him out.

I have never heard of anyone you mentioned, not that that is important, obviously you didn't pay much attention
to the members of the Wilburys, or the ones I suggest as potentially right for a new venture. You have a lot to
catch up on. Smile

Great choices, except I would prefer to make it all new. Willie Nelson and Bonnie Raitt, yes. Springsteen and Cougar, definitely worthy.
And that's where this gets tough. You have to be able to cut out your hero for the sake of the mission.
