|
|
Hi, quick question to each and every one who like me, wonders about the introduction of VST products to the market and then they dissapear with no trace, this is the case of synths like attack and Xphraze, now there's no place to get updates or anything that keeps them with the flagships of the company. Xphraze was retailing last moth for more than $300 dollars and went down to $60 this rather than being exciting is sad because you can't find a product like this anywhere.
point of this topic is to, I guess have steinberg bring through updated versions the synths that are already gone, even if they were made by third party manufactures.
well, whoever cares to discuss about this, please write! |

I have good news for you. Wizoo is continuing to support X Phraze. http://www.wizoo.com/index.php?id=78&no_cache=1&L=2&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=5&tx_ttnews[backPid]=64
And finding it for $60 is good news for me. I was considering paying $130 for it.
Actually, Steinberg's site still lists XPhraze as a current product. Where did you find out it's discontinued?
But I wonder about the discontinued products too. Steinberg has discontinued some really cool stuff. Some of it has turned up as included plugins in Cubase, which is great. But some will become useless eventually. Good thing it costs a lot less than harware.
I have a few strategies:
I recently got D'Cota, which is also discontinued, and I think it produces a huge variety of the most beautiful and interesting sounds I've heard since groundbreaking synths like the D50 came out in the 80's. I love it! But unfortunately in a few year whenever the next version of Windows appears, it may not run on a new computer. I know I could get Virsyn Tera, which D'cota is the smaller brother of, and I guess in several years when my current computer is long out of date and the heart of my studio is a newer faster computer, that's what I'll have to do.
Another approach is to hang on to your current computer when you get a new one and use your old one to run standalone soft synths. I like the fact that synths by NI will run standalone, and will run on older computers, even back to Win 98! I can run those on a 2nd computer freeing up CPU on my main one.
There is a program, I forget who makes it, called VST host, which I think may allow you to run synths and effects that don't run standalone without having to run them in Cubase. _________________ "Compression is like a drug that you can't get enough of. " - Joe Chiccarelli

| Xphraze hasn't been discontinued. It's just that Steinberg is clearing out some stock. |

Hi Fellas:
I'm not trying to blow any smoke up someone's........., but i still think that XPhrase is the most unique, useful and inspiring VSTi out there. There are literally hundreds of good virtual analog VSTi synths out there - all making the same sounds. XPhrase is in a class all by itself.
Peace: - bubba _________________ http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/48239

I think maybe the BIGGER issue here is what happens when you purchase a VSTi that requires authorization based on your specific hardware, then the company goes out of business AND you upgrade your computer. You are then royally screwed - there is no way to use the VSTi on the new computer. Yes, it's happened to me.

Well, after posting my topic I read all your replies, well good to know there's some concern. I asked for the xphraze at a local Guitar center (orange county, CA) those were the words of the representative... "discontinued, we have it for 58.95 but we don't have it in stock" they said other two stores had it, but that wasn't the case. then, when calling steinberg I got the same answer "we don't have it" can you believe that? they don't have it, it sounded kind of funny... anyway they said it has to go through any distributor but no distributor hast it.
I have the waldorf attack and the model-e but these software based synths are leaving the scene faster than the old hardware monsters, I'm affraic to buy anything now, even so with steinberg being bought by Yamaha who knows waht's going to happen, even though steinberg has been steady on the development of software like cubase, and nuendo, many contents and backup material are just coming and going with all these aquisitions. what's going to happen? not even at NAMM show i found an answer from the people at steinberg. soon this cool software synths will be obsolete and as you say the won't run on newer computers, there's no upgrade on those and low support. the answer may be stand alone software but again, these art pieces are being like teenager popstars, famous only for a season.
Should we spend the money on them? |

OK, lets say that Steinberg has no longer the rights to distribute it, this is why they where clearing the stock. I don't know how long it takes for Wizoo to produce and distribute new packages, but they have the rights now.
Oh, and to easy your mind: as long as reFX exists, I will keep Xphraze running. If a new OS comes out and it wouldn't run anymore, I will make the required changes to make it work again. So in the case of Xphraze I can assure you that you will be able to use it for a VERY long time.
Cheers,
Mike |

XPhraze is absolutely EXCELLENT! Thanks Michael from reFX for the reassurance that XPhraze will get the continued support it deserves. I love it. _________________ SX 3.1.1.944 & Cubase 5 & 4 & 3 & 2 & 1, HALion, XPhraze, D'Cota, GrooveAgent, Wavelab, etc.

Thanks Mike. Now if only I could work out how this thing has remained kinda underground!!!! Maybe Wizoo will do what is required to make it more main stream. I think people just do not know what its capable of. I attended a music hardware and software exhibition here last year, the local distributer demoed Xphase along with other products, the demo was so poor and explanations so incorreherent I would not have bought the product, if I didn't already own it. Stick free demoes on the free CD's and DVD's of Future Music, Computer Music, Sound on Sound et al and I think this thing should take-off once people get a chance to play with it.
Best wishes with it.

Erm... I see no link at all at www.wizoo.com for XPhraze these days - I don't even know if they still somehow sell the xpansions...
Thats a shame - this is without doubt my favourite VST at the moment, with Kontakt 2 and Hypersonic 2 coming a close second...
