Hello,

My name is Christopher and I just received my Tascam FW1884 with Cubase LE yesterday from FedEX. I have figured out the settings on my PC and everything. I am still learning all the functions, but I have a couple questions that have probably been answered a hundred times. If there is definate answer somewhere in the forum, please direct me to it. I have a small studio I have built in my basement and will be doing small studio projects including recording local bands. Here are the questions I have at the moment:

1. Will Cubase LE record 8 tracks at the same time?

2. If it does, what do I do?

Thank you for any help anybody may have for me. I am sure to become a regular user of this forum. Thanks again.

ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/General_Documents/Cubase_All_Versions_Feature_Comparison.pdf

Per above referenced document, line 3, you are limited to 4 inputs and outputs. Of course, you will need hardware that supports multiple I/O, such as MOTU, Aardvark, etc.

I have LE 1.0.7. I am only able to get 2 tracks to become hot for recording. Is there something I can change to get all 8 to work at once? I've skimmed through the manual and couldn't find anything about activating all 8 tracks. Thanks for any help.

Nevermind, I figured it out. I will post the solution I came up with to maybe help any other new Cubase LE users who encounter the same problem. It was a "duh" kinda moment when I figured it out, but never the less, I solved my problem.

Solution:

Make sure all tracks you are wanting to record at once have the inputs assigned accordingly.

Example:
Track 1 - IN1
Track 2 - IN2
Track 3 - IN3
Track 4 - IN4
Track 5 - IN5
Track 6 - IN6
Track 7 - IN7
Track 8 - IN8

After that the record enable button can be enabled for each track.

I hope this will help somebody else in the future.

I'm not entirely sure about this.... but while there's info floating that 07 can and 08 can't, my version of 07 also won't record more inputs. I suspect that it's not the version, but the hardware you buy it with. LE is an OEM special version of the cubase, specifically programmed to only run with the hardware you buy it with installed- a sort of hardware/driver dongle. The Tascam and my 0404 only have 4 inputs possible at one time (2 if you're all analogue inputs, like me); that makes it sensible that versions shipping with this hardware be limited to 4 inputs.
The presonus firesomething firewire card has 8 physical inputs; at least some of the LE versions shipped with it (07?) it seems can record 8 inputs. That makes sense. It also appears that some presonus cards have been shipped with a version (08?) that only supports two inputs- I think people in that situation should be able to get the version changed.
Soooo- if you have the tascam, I suspect 4 inputs is it....
Can you, for what it's worth, record 4 analogue inputs at once? To another card as well as the tascam? I wouldn't mind trying this if it's possible!
Hope this makes sense!

I have a Tascam FW1884 with 8 analog inputs. It is a pretty sweet piece of equipment. Now that I have figured out how to enable all available tracks to record, I am going to try and record a full drum kit at one time this weekend. We'll see what happens. Thanks for all the suggestions, it is greatly appreciated.

Cool!
Drums is the big limitation for recording one or two tracks at a time, but since I don't have time, space, (or patience:-) for a drummer/drumkit, I'm living with loops/midi drums. They never complain and seldom leave empty bottles in the corner...

That is sooo true. (about the drummers) I can't remember how many times I had to get on my drummer to clean up his "area" in the practice room.
