I'm trying to figure out Virtual Bassist and just don't get a few things. 1. can I use a Cubase MIDI track to trigger individual bass notes in VB or is it just for starting/stopping the built-in patterns? 2. If so, can I have the patterns output their individual MIDI notes into Cubase? It seems rather limiting if I'm stuck with the patterns that are built-in even though their are variations and I guess you can change the timining.

Hi

You cannot record VB midi out, which is the biggest mistake the developer ever made.
(what was he/she thinking?)

I don't own VB so I can't answer the other question.

Just try it. Insert some midi notes on a track wth VB as the VSTi and see if it plays.

I recommend Broomstick Bass, which does have Midi out.

Yeah Unfortunately I have to agree with Studio, at first I thought VB was a great tool to use but as I have grown to understand this program more, it is light years from being anything close to a viable program for serious project work. It's got a few cool Slap Patterns and that's about it. When you really want to apply it to your work the actual work that needs to be applied in editing the arrangement, is far more than anyone would wish to do. Steinberg/Yamaha should do themselves a huge favor and remove their name(s) from this product because it's in its' infancy stage at this point.

For those who purchased this product at the asking price, when Steinberg finally updates this crazy VST, they should be allowed a FREE upgrade. I fear however that Steinberg will probably try to pull some more cash out of us thinking we're that freakin stupid. I highly recommend anyone who is testing this product out with anticipation of buying it .. DON'T.

As for Broomstick, Hmmm I woudn't go there either. My Vote goes with Spectrasonics Trilogy. Much better high end quality VST that works very well with Cubase.

Surely, we are talking about completely different product here.

Trilogy does not create bass lines (or does it?) I have to agree the sounds are impressive in the demo.

If you buy Virtual bass or Broomstick, I imagine most people are buying them for the bass line creation.
