With Cubase 5 being a true OSX cocoa application does this mean all 3rd party plugins will need to be re-written?

So long as they are Universal Binary, they should be ok to the best of my knowledge.

I dont think so. There is a 64-bit limitation too. Carbon libs are only in 32-bits. But carbon plugins should work with cocoa applications. But 64 bits is a different story,
but that is a problem for cubase 6.

The way OSX works I would expect Carbon plugins to run, but obviously they wont be 64 bit processes, meaning if you need access to more than 4Gb of RAM for a plugin it will have to be a 64bit plugin. Hmm. This could be a job for the VST Bridge 2.0... Confused

Seriously though I don't think there is a problem passing data between Carbon and Cocoa so long as they are the same architecture. The problems start if you try to pass data between Intel and PPC code. The VST Bridge gets around this by passing data over the internal TCP/IP network.
