Dear HALion and HALion based product friends!
Steinberg has today issued re-released hotfix updates for HALion Symphonic Orchestra 1.3 and HALion String Edition 2.3 as well as both the HALion Player 3.3 retail and HALion Player 3.3 OEM versions. Additionally a hotfix update of the The Grand 2.3 is also available now.
The new version updates functions within the underlying HALion 3 sampler engine shared by all these products. These include enhancements when recalling tempo settings in standalone mode, with zone display in the Key Zone Editor as well as program change functionality. The re-released updates are also fixing a problem with content location for all HALion Player-based products.
A ‘What’s New’ document accompanying the update installers lists all changes for this hotfix update.
For HALion 3 no re-release was neccessary and the version remains like it was released some days ago.

Fantastic - all appear to be working beautifully and fast!
Two oddities:
1. When installing the updates, in each case the installer thought I had a 'more recent' version installed. I knew I didn't (already trashed the old versions) so clicked 'continue' and installation went fine.
2. Though they worked fine as stand-alones, I couldn't see any of the instruments within Cubase 4 to use as MIDI destinations, Rewire, VST instruments or instrument track options. Tearing what's left of hair out - until I made an inspection of 'VST plugins' under 'Devices/Plugin information' and pressed the magic 'Update' button. I may have missed a reference to this in the ReadMe's. It certainly worked!
If anyone can tell me why I still can't get the latest Bass Station plug in to appear, I'd be most grateful. _________________ STUDIO/MOBILE: Macbook Pro 2.4GHz • MacOSX10.5.xxx • Cubase 4.2.xxx • Halion SymphOrch • Halion Player • The Grand 2 • Groove Agent 3 • MOTU 828 Mk2 • Mackie Onyx Satellite • Yamaha KX25 |

I think that the version numbers are confusing the installer.
My currently installed version of HSO is 3.3.0.450 and the latest update version is 1.3.2.459
I had the same problem as eyeboyd when I installed the last (bad) update I got a message saying that I was installing over a newer version of HSO. _________________ Mac Pro Dual-Core,2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.11, Cubase 4.5.2 |

| I'm trying to download the fixes for Halion and HSO, but nothing comes up. Even putting in the ftp.steinberg address manually does nothing. Is the FTP down? |

I'd be happy to download the Halion Player for my Scarbee SID XL, but since I'm no PC expert I don't know if I need the "OEM " or the "retail" version...
...what's the difference between the two? _________________ OS: Windows XP Prof SP 3; Programme: Cubase SX 3.1.1 & C5.0.1; Groove Agent 2, Hypersonic 2, div. EastWest-Libraries und sonstige VSTi-PlugIns; Rechner: Hamburg-Audio-PC mit Intel i7 QuadCore 4 x3,9 GHz, 3 GB RAM; EMU 1820m

If you bought Halion Player on it's own in a box, that's the 'retail' version. If you got it bundled with something else, that's 'OEM' .
"OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacture, and in the context of software means that a particular piece of software is intended to be shipped and used with a particular bit of hardware" _________________ STUDIO/MOBILE: Macbook Pro 2.4GHz • MacOSX10.5.xxx • Cubase 4.2.xxx • Halion SymphOrch • Halion Player • The Grand 2 • Groove Agent 3 • MOTU 828 Mk2 • Mackie Onyx Satellite • Yamaha KX25 |

hmm...
...but the thing is, Halion Player came along with a piece of SOFTware (in my case Scarbee Imperial Drums).
So is it retail or OEM? _________________ OS: Windows XP Prof SP 3; Programme: Cubase SX 3.1.1 & C5.0.1; Groove Agent 2, Hypersonic 2, div. EastWest-Libraries und sonstige VSTi-PlugIns; Rechner: Hamburg-Audio-PC mit Intel i7 QuadCore 4 x3,9 GHz, 3 GB RAM; EMU 1820m

If you mean you bought Scarbee Imperial Drums, and HALion Player is the player SCI uses to play the samples, you have the OEM version.
The retail version is the boxed version which comes with it's own sample library, the same library that comes with the full version of HALion 3.

| It says these re-released updates are also fixing a problem with content location for all HALion Player-based products. Has there been a fix for HalionOne? I've installed the latest update for Studio 4 but now Halion can't load presets. It still works when I re-install the original version, but fails again when I re-install the update again (in fact it crashes the whole program). THere seem to be updates for all Halion-based versions except HalionOne! |

I don't think these updates apply to Cubase's HALionOne. I expect any fixes (if there are any?) to be included in forthcoming Cubase updates.
Cheers,

| Thank you Mauri. I found I also had problems with a number of os x programs (address book, mail, safari etc etc), which needed me to completely reinstall os x (hence the delay in this reply). Once i'd done that and eventually reloaded all my applications including Studio 4, the HalionOne problem had resolved itself. To my relief. But thanks for taking the time to reply. |

You're welcome, and I'm glad you sorted the problem.
Cheers ,

| I seem to be having the same problem as an earlier poster. I get a 404 error on any of the links to download the updates. |

I don't get this. My HSO is version 1.0.
The VST is version 3.2.1.1387.
The installer on the FTP is version 1.5xx, and indicates that my version already installed is newer.
Is there really an update for HSO, because it really does not work. _________________ Mac Pro 8 Core/G5 PPC/Cubase 5.5/Cubase Studio 4.13/OS 10.6.3: Most used stuff: Trilian, The Grand 2, HALion Symphonic Orchestra, EWQLSO silver, Ozone 4, UAD-2 duo, PPG Wave, String Machine, Battery3, Gladiator, Virsyn Reflect, CSR room, IK Fender, Virsyn Tape, AKAI MPD24, Roland PC300, ARC, Yamaha HS80M, Yamaha N12 |

All of those links show a 404 because the forum is cutting out part of the URL. When it shortens the URL, it should be a "..." but instead, it's underscored and cuts it out. I had to google to get to the actual links.
Edit: I did the install and I still get the same stupid "missing samples" message. I'm done messing with this crap. I have never seen such a messy installation. |
