New - so bear with me - or -new so have a beer with me- ... L

I see there is a few posts on here about recording GA3 to midi. Once that is done, does the actual project file contain the recorded material? In other words, can CuBase simply play the project with no external programs and have the actual drum sounds come though?

I have at times been successfull in routing GA3 sound out to my audio capture device and then back into cubase, recording the actual sound of the drums. If you do not want to edit the drums once laid down, do you feel this is better than the midi methode above?

I got Cubase to do some simple recording and wow was I in for a learning cure. At this point I am still behind the curve and just trying to keep my head above water. Thanks for any help you can give.

Yes ! GA3 makes a great midi file. Export it and save it for future use in other projects is what I do. I have a midi file folder on my samples drive. You'd be surprised what that midi file sounds like when driving a synth of some sorts.

You could do it this way, but it's not really necessary. To each his own ! For example, Lets say you have 8 GA3 outputs, and each one has it's own channel in your host. You now have control over audio processing , reverb, conpressor, etc in cubase. If you route it out, you have control over a stereo pair, as we know is only 2 channels. I'd rather have control over all 8 in cubase. Besides, what if you decide during mixdown, that you want the "crash symbol hit to be a "ride symbol". Tweaking the midi file is easily accomplished by moving 1 midi event, as opposed to routing , or rerouting, the re-recording the entire drum track after moving 1 midi event.

Seems like a lot of extra work. Back in the days of the outboard midi sound module, you had to route it out to your desk, then back into the recorder.

Good Luck !

Ok,
I see what you mean by having the 8 channels as opposed to just the 2 stereo pair. I was just laying down a drum track to try and better my guitar playing, so it seemed easy to just record the drums as is. Hower when it comes time to mix, then what you say really helps.

Does the midi require groove agent 3 to be running or around to work and sounds like the drums it has in it? This question is about playback of the recorded midi input.

Sorry about my terms and such but am really new to all this.

Thanks so much Lightwave for being on top of this and in warp time!
