Hi,
this is my first post. I would like to say a big hi and thank you to those who read my post and respond.
i have Cubase 5 and Halion 3.5.
I just dont get how the saving works thru Cubase 5 of Halion sounds/programs. At the moment when i save a Halion program in Cubase 5 it saves to Mediabay and it only saves the whole BANK of programs and all sounds (ie the whole Multi setup) that are inside Halion in one hit? surely the point of Mediabay is to save individual programs/sounds to it so you can categorise them, audition them etc. But whenever i hit "Save Preset" at the top of Halion 3.5 where the "cube" icon is and save the "preset" there it is saving the entire multitimbral setup/bank of Halion.
How do i just save a program of Halion to Mediabay?
Many Thanks,

i think it is starting to dawn on me, of how most people seem to be using Halion. One instance of Halion in Cubase per sound/program.
3 sounds (piano, string, stab) = 3 Halions loaded up in the VST instrument rack.
that way using the mediabay (that can only save full banks) is fine because the Halion instance is only playing one sound and your mediabay "bank" saves are only of single sounds. ie channels 2-16 are just empty. My guess is that if channel 2 or channel 3 is used any time its probably just for similar sound stacking...ie stacking 3 strings together
using Halion with its "communal" program list is really limiting if you want to use Halion as a true multitimbral sampler. Just trying to load in new sounds (that are often only fxb) and you often accidentally lose all previous programs, etc. This way your other Halion instances in the VST rack are still loaded with your other sounds.
Its not the most CPU or memory efficient way of doing things but it sure is the simplest/easist/most intuitive. I hope Halion 4 makes this whole process more streamlined/efficient (separate program lists for each multitimbral part...much better Mediabay sound integration)..how do you use your Halion?
Cheers,

Yes, the media bay concept seems to ignore multitimbral plugins or bank management in general, which is really a major oversight (I just recently switched to Cubase 4 and can't believe that they missed that).
To your question though... I don't know if that changed with HALion3, but in HALion 2 there is still a way to save and load fxp's from the program browser (right click save / load program).

hi Chris, thanks for responding. yes using fxb and fxp you can save within Halion 3. you are correct.
i was more just shocked that it wasnt possible to handle things intuitively with Mediabay with anything multitimbral in Halion. I expected at least with two Steinberg products for there to be some kind of more reasonable interaction/ease of use. Its one of the reasons i brought Halion over Kontakt, assuming this would be the case. i should have known better, and expected less from Steinberg. oh well.
Heres hoping that Halion 4 arrives one day and this is sorted.
