I hate to tell you this but I can't find an old version of Cubase VST. Maybe you might want to upgrade to a new Mac. Apple doesn't support anything earlier than OS X plus Steinberg won't give you support for products older than Cubase SE/SL/SX 2 & higher. I'll give you some ideas where to GET NEW or refurb tools that should if possible ease your wallet:

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_mini

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac?mco=MjI4OTY2

If you are a student try this site:

Once again I'm sorry but you may want or need to upgrade. I can't tell what to do but it is something you need to think about. Steinberg & VST vendors such as FabFilter & Native Instruments won't support ANYTHING FOR THE MAC EXCEPT OS X. There is nothing wrong with using older hardware & software sometimes that can be a good thing. Some are fond of using Amiga computers & still create great music. If you have to spend a lot searching that's when one must make a decision. When you have to spend time looking for hard to find obsolete tools that could eat up your time & music making. One should count both the money costs & whether its a worthwhile pursuit. Steinberg makes Cubase 4 Essentials. If you need new VSTs try these sites:

Have a good day.

Thanks for trying to help and for the multitude of links, Subgrounder...

In fact I need the old version i.e. Cubase VST 4 ish (I already have the new versions) and of course, the old Cubase will only run on old computers too... so I have no choice but to run it on something like a G3 Mac on OS8.6. This is because old style Cubase songs don't convert to any newer versions than Cubase VST 5 I think.

Basically I had tonnes of old format songs (each with a lot of information that gets lost through the conversion processes to newer Cubases) on a computer whose hardware failed, and I need to be able to continue working on them.

By the way if anyone ever needs to retrieve data from a broken computer I highly recommend a very nifty tool called a Universal Drive Adaptor.

Cheers

Are you still looking? I have a 4.1 CD for Mac that I'll sell. It's the CD, installation book, and manual. All in very good condition. Let me know.
