So reading through these forums, I realize that I may not have made the best purchase with the CI2...

I have 980X i7 (Hexacore) with 24GB of RAM and SSD RAIDs for my samples, yet the CI2 cannot play below a latency of 1024 without a ton of pops. The other day, when I dropped the latency to 512 (so I could record my playing...) the audio completely dropped out and could only be resolved by reloading my 20gb template of samples.

I have upgraded the drives and played around with the settings of my PC and the interface and have yet to yield even mediocre results. I have tried turning down the color bits on my PC (as someone suggested in another thread) and have tried to compensate for this latency and the poor audio performance.

What are the purchasers of the CI2 to do? I am not the only one with this problem, and Steinberg does not seem to be in a rush to fix it. I can't return this device but would if I could, not because I do not like it, but because it just doesn't work and there are no answers as to why it won't perform.

I don't mean to come across angry, but on the surface the CI2 seems awesome, but it just failing as a device.

Have you tried it on a different machine to confirm it is actually the CI2?

I have tried it with another PC with similar results, albeit (and amazingly) fewer audio pops/clicks.

Are you using V1.1.2 driver ?
What buffer size do you set ?

Have you tried other USB Audio I/O with your system ?

My system is not like you (not 20gb sample !!), I use CI2 with my Core i 5 (4gb ram) system (Windows 7 32bit, 1.1.2 driver)
and no drop out (even if I set 256 buffer size. of course it depends on project).

cheers,
Lelula

Lelula,

Thanks for your response. I do have the latest drivers, and I have set the latency at numerous settings. I noticed that, when I set it at lower latencies (below 1024) my ASIO meter spikes constantly, and thus causes the drop outs and subsequent complete loss of audio, forcing me to reload all of my samples.

I haven't used another USB audio interface with this PC unfortunately, but in the past I have never had an issue with a USB interface.

The issue I am experiencing is that once the ASIO Meter peaks, I lose all audio output and am forced to reload all of my samples from within VE Pro. If I could avoid that issue altogether, I would be happy, and the only way to do that is turning my latency to 1024.

But at 1024, it is hard for my to play accurately.

Does this ever happen when you are not using VE Pro?

Yes. Although I do wonder if VE Pro is making the situation worse.

It seems to be just because of CPU overload ? ("ASIO Meter peaks" in VST performance window)
No ?

Let us know your system.
OS(32 or 64), Cubase version (32 or 64), VST Bridge (use or not), etc...
Even if you test with just a simple project, does it happen ?

cheers,

Lelula,

Thank you! I am Cubase 5 64bit, Windows 7 64bit, and with two instances of VST Bridge. With simple projects it does not occur, and only seems to happen when I am sending large amounts of MIDI data. The ASIO meter will spike and I will lose all audio... I think the lose of audio is due to the ASIO spike (or it seems to coincide), and the ASIO spikes occurs when transmitting a lot of MIDI data to my VST Instruments hosted within my projects.

When I turn up the latency, it seems to remedy this a bit, however it does not entirely solve the problem.
