i just built a new system with win7 32bit and installed ai5 that i got with my ci2. everything seemed to install fine and i also got the updates. my problem is that when i try and lower the latency below 512 to track guitar with an ampsim, i get a weird ring modulator-esque sound. and 512 it works fine but the latency delay is enough that it bothers me. my system at my studio has C4 on XP with a couple of HD192's and i can get the latency down to 128 and below without any problems what so ever with several tracks that have amplitube 2, amplitube SVT and BFD 1.

anyone know what would cause this to happen below 512 and any possible solutions?

cheers,
dean

for me, this is unacceptable and i will unfortunately have to return the unit if i can't get this solved. my new system is for home use... some editing of clients projetcs and especially for my own idea sketching. i need to be able to track with guitar sims, bfd and possibly a vsti or two running.

I have the same problem on my notebook (windows 7 64 bit, 4Mb, i7 processor). Helpdesk is not able to solve it and Steinberg is not reacting on this forum (I reported this on the forum already in december '09). So please report your problem to them and maybe speed things up. Good luck!

Sigh, me too. New decently-powered desktop, Velocity Micro Intel i7 860 @ 2.80 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Win-7 64-bit, NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250.

Any buffer setting below 512 results in a distorted metallic sound for everything, even system beeps. With 512 or greater, latency is painful. I hoped the 1.1.1 driver just released would help, as I do have the Intel 5-series USB, but no luck. No wireless in this machine, and disabling other USB devices such as the media card reader didn't help.

I'm kicking myself for (1) not buying a USB 2 or Firewire audio interface, and (2) waiting too long to return this thing. I like the concept, but wish it worked Sad.

Same issue here folks, it's drivin me crazy. Just purchased cubase 5, the CI2, and a new desktop w the intel core i5 processor. Any setting under 512 gives me metallic ringing... When at 512, the latency in the headphones when monitoring recording is unacceptable... I'll keep watching the forums too & if I find A fix I'll be posting it asap. Thanks!

I'm tempted to buy a PCI USB card, and see if that somehow magically makes things better. Maybe the problems are specific to the onboard USB hardware?

My system already has more USB ports than I need, but a USB 2.0 PCI card is dirt-cheap, so it's worth a try.

I'll report back when I get around to this.

Dont forget CI2 is a USB 1.1 device, so trying a PCI USB 2 is not going to make any difference, unless it handles USB 1.1 better than the onboard, I doubt it though.
I tried the new driver, made it a little better, but a turn around latency of 20mS still drives me crazy,

Steinberg: please try and do a guitar solo with a 20mS delay and tell me if you think it sounds cool and that you can actually keep the pitch and timing, I can't.

cheers
Kell
