|
|
Hello...
It seems some of you have a Cubase start-up problem after applying the Cubase/Studio/Essential 5.1.1 update. It looks like it is related to "Studio Manager" but it seems that Studio Manager is not the real issue here. Some of you fixed the problem by replacing the plug-in set file ("Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3") from 5.1.1 with the previous version of 5.1.0. This, of course, is no solution. For anyone affected we need more info why Cubase is hanging on your system.
Please follow these steps (requires basic Command Prompt skills):
0. Make sure you create the situation, where Cubase hangs at start-up (put the 5.1.1 plug-in set file back in place where it belongs)
1. Download "procdump" from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900.aspx
2. Unzip it...
3. Start "Command Prompt" from Windows Start Menu (>All Programs >Accessories)
4. There change to the path with the unzipped "procdump.exe", as an example: "D:\Users\johndoe\Downloads\procdump"
5. Enter "procdump -h Cubase5.exe Cubase5.dmp", do NOT hit [Enter] yet... (replace "Cubase5.exe" with "Cubase Studio 5.exe" or "Cubase Essential 5.exe" if you are using another Cubase 5 derivative)
6. Start your Cubase version
7. When the start-up reaches the point of hanging, execute the command line by hitting the [Enter] key, a dump file will be written at the same location where the procdump.exe resides.
8. Zip and mail this dump file to "info AT steinberg DOT net", subject "Cubase 5 start-up dump". Include your system specs please (OS, 32/64-bit?, CPU Type, etc...)
Thank you and sorry for the hassle. This problem did not show up in any of our tests in all the recent months, neither at our beta-testers nor somewhere else.
Best regards,
Christian Dettner

Hi Christian,
Will the available update be modified to prevent this problem?
I'm asking because I wanted to do the update tonight, but maybe it's safer to wait until you guys have had time to address the issues... _________________ Cubase 5.5 64 bit

one thing I noticed was that if I opened using the old file, then changed the vst3 file for the new one then re-scanned plugins it hung on 39% "auto pan". whether that too is a red hearing or not too i don't know.
dunno if that helps, ill do the requested dump laters when I get a chance.
Cheers

It seems only some Windows 7 users are affected, or is there someone using Windows Vista and/or Windows XP? _________________ Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH |

It seems that most of the problems happen when you are running 32bit Cubase on a Windows 64bit OS.
I'll get a process dump for you later when I am at home. |

My O/S is 32bit and I've got the problem. standard cubase install, only added plugins addictive drums, stylus RMX, halion symphonic orchestra 16bit trial, Orca and Guitar Rig 4 pro and alieno. all legitimate e.t.c.
as a guitarist looking forward to trying the improved amp sim.... |

I had this probem with Cubase 5, 64 bit running on Windows Vista 64 bit. The Studio Manager application was only 32 bit and Cubase could not recognize the plugin. Installing Cubase 5 32 on Vista 64 bit resolved the problem.
I use Studio Manager with a DM2000VMC console to save snapshots of mixes.
I am planning on installing Windows 7 64 bit with Cubase 5 64 bit but not if the Studio Manager fails. Can anyone confirm if the Studio Manager is now enabled in Cubase 5.1.1 64 bit? _________________ Cubase 5, Yamaha DM2000VCM, 2 RME HDSPe Madi, 2 RME ADI-648, 1 RME AD32, 1 Neve 1073 DPD, 2 Neve 4081, 3 API 3124+, 5 API 512C Lunchbox, 1 Focusrite ISA828 with AD card. I have this issue as well. Can no longer start Cubase. I am waiting to hear about a fix from Steinberg but by the end of day will be re-installing the original version. I can't afford to be a beta-tester.
Last working configuration:
-Windows 7 Professional x64 running Cubase 5.0.1-32 bit, 4 gigs of RAM, 2, 3ghz Quad Core Xeon processors. Dedicated Cubase DAW (stripped down, no internet connection or other software, etc...) |

I've just received a mail from Steinberg giving details on a patch they've got to fix this, and asking me to try it out on my (broken) system.
And the good news is that it works - so presumably a release is not that far away!

| Thanks for the heads-up. Kudos to the Dev folks at Steinberg for jumping on this quickly. I'll hold off re-installing from scratch. |

Thanks for bearing with us and helping us find the culprit which finally turned to be a bug in a version of the Intel compiler used for creating the plug-in set. |
Thankyou.
So I have to sue Intel? Dam I am good but not stupid...! |

| I downloaded the update (Kudos on getting all over that) but when I try to install the new version it unpacks, then briefly brings up a blank screen, then crashes. Anyone else have that problem? |

Hi!
The Update doesn't work here - when I start the update, there comes the loading bar and afterwards a window pops up for about half a second. Its empty, but the header says "AMSRuntime". This window closes immediately and thats it.
I tried the update several times, also after a reboot but it doesn't work, Cubase still won't boot (studio manager problem).
Also, I took a closer look at the file:
On the Steinberg homepage it says the update is 71 MB, but the file to download is only 68 MB big. Wrong file? corrupt File?
Please help, need a working Cubase this Weekend!!!
Greetings, Christoph |

Cubase 32-Bit on Windows7 64-Bit
Of course I have done the 5.1.1 Update before, else I wouldn't have the Studio Manager problem...
I didn't try a reinstall yet, I hoped there's another solution?
Thx, Christoph |

Hi,
I've tried to install 5.1.1. but i dont think it really did. There is a small loading bar that suddenly disappears. I don't think anything happens because I've "installed" it for several times, but it doesn't seem to work; the problem: "startup of cubase is stopped when launching Studio manager" still exist.
So what can i do now?

EDIT: After deinstalling and completely reinstalling Cubase + 5.1.1.2 Update it finally works.
But Steinberg, I'm disappointed. I really feel like a betatester rather than a customer...

Eckhard's suggestion to completely uninstall CB5 (I also uninstalled the licenser and deleted all the SB directories, including the AppData/profile directory) and then reinstalling, worked on my system.
Win7x64 / CB5x32
But now I'm having a host of other problems. I don't think they're directly associated with Cubase, though. I believe the instability and crashes of 5 corrupted one of my VSTs, so I'm reinstalling those. (EDIT-After reinstalling Philharmonik I was able to open a huge rewire project...work on it and work on it without any problem)
Great job on getting the fixes out there, SB!

Maybe I am channeling my softer side, but at the end of the day... the folks at Steinberg had a slip, they admitted fault quickly ( which I hate to say most companies will not allow as policy from their legal departments ) and then they corrected the problem. Yes it may be inconvenient to have to re-install, but at least there was a solution provided in a weeks' time. I've had experiences with other companies that took months for them to even admit that there was a problem on their end. Had I adhered to my own policy of imaging my system drive before updating ANY software it would have been a 10 minute fix, so shame on me for that. I'm not trying to start a flame war here. I understand that people are frustrated and I honestly respect that.
My message to Steinberg, thank you for correcting the issue quickly. I hope this was a small learning experience that will help make further development go smoothly. You have put out one heck of a product in Cubase 5 and I hope you ( and everyone in this forum ) has a happy holiday.
My message to everyone else... here's to a happy holiday season full of grooves and tunes for all.
( Yeah... definitely channeling my softer side. All I needed was for Tiny Tim to pop up and say "God bless us all... every one..." ) |
