When attempting to use the insert effects on any of the channels in Cubase I get an error message that says NOT AVAILABLE. I've checked to make sure the control panel is set up for External FX, but I still keep getting the message and am unable to use the VST effects. After trying to insert the effect, the GUI for the effect come up, but none of the controls are active and the words NOT AVAILABLE are displayed in red.

Any thoughts on this?

I have this same issue. The channel strip m did start working, but the other three plugs did not. Anyone have a solution?

As well as selecting external effects in the hardware setup settings tab, have you also selected an external FX type beneath that.
If you select one of the options which includes Rev-x, the NOT AVAILABLE should disappear.

Hi

I had a similar issue which I think was resolve as follows

1: as already stated make sure you have used the Audi Hardware control Panel to set the 816 to External Mode.

2: make sure you choose a combination of FX that matches the tracks you are assigning them to. For example if you choose 1 xREV X and 6 x Mono Voice Channels ensure you are plugging the Voice Channels into MONO audio tracks

3: this is what caught me: make sure that in your VST Connections/ Input and Output Panels, you have not got *any* of the 816's Digital I/O assigned (that is no SPDIF / ADAT ports). In External Mode the 816 uses ALL digital streams to feed and return the FX ... if you (or Cubase if you load a Template or a Song with Digital I/O active) have unknowingly got Digital I/O active the 816's plug ins will appear as unavailable when you attempt to use them. (the 816 has 8 Digital channels ... you can use them for Digital I/O or FX. Not Both. Wish there was option to do a combo ... say use the REV X, 2 Voice Channels and a couple of ADAT or SPDIF inputs).

Hope this helps

Best

Lee

@LEE: Just to get you right on this one: Are you saying that I should disconnect any thing going in and out of the MR816 in the VST Connections Setup in Cubase? If that is so, I have to admit that I have not yet tried that. I'll give it a go and see if that will work.

Thanks
Henrik

HI

No, not physically disconnect ... but ensure that in your Cubase/Devices/VST Connections panel, that there are no Input or Output Busses assigned to any of the 816's digital I/O. Now you should be able to set the 816 to External Mode and access the FX as vst Plug ins.

You cannot, however, use any of the digital I/O now .... which is a shame. So any external synths, effects etc will need to come in via Analog Inputs.

Best
