First of all: I am a newbie to both Cubase and Halion Symphonic Orchestra (HSO)

I have installed the trial version of HSO in Cubase 5.1, and I can see that both Cubase and HSO is receiving midi-data, but I cannot hear anything... Confused Any ideas Why?

Brgds,
Lars

Hi Lars

I had the same problem but solved it. First make sure you have al 16 Halion Channels activated.

There are one or even two problems, why you do not hear a sound.

First check in the list editor on what channel the midi track plays. So make sure this channel is shown in the inspector and also in HSO. Now the velocity (Vel) and (VelPB) programs should play.

The XFade and X switch programs might still not play. This is because many instruments in HSO use the controller expression C 11 for volume.
If at the start of the midi file there is no contoller command of C 11, there is no sound.

So in that case you have to do the following.

Add before every midi track or just one seperate track, which always runs along:
Type:Controller, Data 1: CC 11 (Expression), Data 2: 127

Now everything should be fine.

Cheers

Wim

A newbie to HSO. I can get sound from HSO as a standalone, but can get almost no sounds when used in Cubase 5.

Added 7 MIDI tracks. All set to HSO, MIDI 1 thru 7
In HSO I've selected a sound bank for Program banks 1 through 7
Output on each is set to Program.

All outputs activated in the VST Instruments window

I can see the MIDI activity on HSO but no sounds using external keyboard. Using the mouse directly on the VST instrument keyboard, a very few keys will make a sound, and only on Program 1.

I have not selected any Xswitch programs.

Lastly, I don't understand the choices on the HSO Output field: "Hso1 Violin" "Hso2 Viola" etc..... I didn't see this in the manual.

Cheers,
