im thinking of getting the steinberg ci1 i already have a emu 0404 pci card installed but it doesnt have balanced outputs and i want balanced outputs to get a better sound coming from my monitors..the thing i really want too know is when i play my vsts will it be the ci1 that powers the asio vsts or can i use my emu too power the vsts and just have the audio coming out threw the ci1?

on my emu card the lowest i can get it is down to aroun 17ms without any issues and itll power loads of vsts with no problem what is the lowest the ci1 will get down too?thanks

will it be the ci1 that powers the asio and VST?

Yes, only one device can be used.

Hi djbeanhead

I don't actually use the Ci1, but it's the case in all Music Software/soundcards.

Most modern computers and sound cards, will cope with recording audio and VST instruments, with no noticable latency (delay)

17ms, is quite high these days, I personally can get 6 or 7 on my MR816, but 12ms is usually quite acceptable

regards

my computer isnt mega fast its got 2gb ram and its got athlon x64 2800 processor and im running xp service pack 3 for my soundcard im using the emu 0404 pci card its good but it only got unbalanced outputs and i wanted balanced as im getting a litte interferance from neighbours.when i use 17ms i dont get much problems and the lag i get is just about aceprtable but id still like i too be below 12 ms Sad i notice the ci1 doesnt have midi so would ui have to use the midi ports on my emu card or would i have to buy a usb to midi connection cable?

and another thing do all of the ci interfaces use the same connections?they look the same ins/outs and i was told they use the same preamps as the steinberg mr series is this true and how do the preamps sound?thanks
