Does anyone know how to get around this? my current MIDI/USB cable is 32 bit only (its the generic one with a treble clef on it).

I heard one guy saying he got around it, but either way, are there any 64bit WIn7 compatible MIDI/USB cables on the market the forum knows of?

Cheers

I use a Cakewalk (Roland) UM-1G here with Windows 7 x64
Here's a handy audio compatability chart I found very useful ; http://www.rainrecording.com/windows-watch/

Cable's got nothin' to do with it! It's the drivers for your Midi interface, albeit 32 or 64 bit, that make it compatible with your system. Midi uses a 5 pin DIN connector which only utilizes 2 of the 5 Pins. USB is just a handy adapter interface for using the same 2 wires. BTW, Midi Baud rate is a meager 32.5 kb/sec., USB or no USB. Midi is Midi! mm

I'm a little confused here too , ZeroZero . Are you using your Liquid Saffire 56 as a Midi interface or a separate Midi-to USB cable ? ( I only looked at your sig. after my first reply d'oh! )

If you're using the Liquid Saffire 56 and you already have the 64 bit drivers installed there shouldn't be a problem. Is there a problem ?

See the Win7 x64 information at the bottom left of this page and follow the link : http://www.focusrite.com/products/saffire/liquid_saffire_56/Specifications

PS. How many sax players does it take to change a lightbulb ?
Only one , but he has to test all the spare lightbulbs in turn first before selecting the one he likes best. Laughing

Hi Dave, No I am not using the saffire this is being used for a keyboard (succesfully).
I have a cable that converts from MIDI to USB. I tried this but nothing is showing up in MIDI driver selection in Cubase or other standalones. It's an Ebay job and has no manufacturers name, though it has a treble clef sign on the cable. When I approached the seller I weas told that it only supported 32 bit. I think the above post is right and it's a driver issue. The cable has a black box in the middle (which presumably does the conversion). My suspician is that windows is wrongly identifying the driver and that if I delete the driver it is trying to use, then, go 'update driver '(in device manager) this might work, but I have no idea which of my many USB drivers it might be. I could also be completely wrong.

thanks all for the input
