I've checked my memory with CPU-Z and I don't understand, in spite of much searching, what it's telling me. I have DDR3 1333 installed. CPU-Z is reporting the DRAM frequency at 665 MHz and the FSB:DRAM ratio is 2:10. 665 x 2(FSB) = 1330, which is what memtest86+ reports. This is the closest i can get to what I am presuming is the magic number of 1333.

Is my memory running right?

memtest86+
DRAM freq 665MHz (DDR3-1330)
CAS figures of 9-9-9-24 (whatever they are...)
Dual Channel
BCLK 133 MHz

CPU-Z Memory tab:

DDR3, Size: 8192 MB, Channels: Dual, NB Freq: varies c.2394 MHz

Timings:
DRAM Freq: 665 MHz
FSB:DRAM: 2:10
CAS: 9-9-9-24
tRFC: 74
CR: 2T

CPU-Z SPD tab (same for each of 4 slots):

DDR3, Samsung, p/n: M378B5673EH1-CH9
size: 2048 MB, bandwidth: PC3-10700 (667 MHz)

Timing Table (all 1.5V):
457 MHz, 6-6-6-17-23
533 MHz, 7-7-7-20-27
609 MHz, 8-8-8-22-30
685 MHz, 9-9-9-25-34

Thanks for any spoon-feeding,
Crotchety

Your memory is running in dual channel mode, because you have the "wrong number of sticks". If you pull one of them out, and make sure that the other 3 are in the correct slots, you'll see the speed go up.

he is supposed to be in dual channel mode he has an 860.

DDR= Double Data Rate
so take the 665 and mulitple it by 2 = 1330Mhz

these numbers:
Timing Table (all 1.5V):
457 MHz, 6-6-6-17-23
533 MHz, 7-7-7-20-27
609 MHz, 8-8-8-22-30
685 MHz, 9-9-9-25-34

are what the auto default would be if you ran at that speed.

so 457 x 2 =914 would give you CL rating of 6-6-6-17-23

Thank you, Scott, that's nice and clear. I suppose I'm running okay then, as I'm only just short of 666.5. Is this the bit that overclocking happens to? Any idea what the NB Freq relates to?

Furthermore, I see from the stick's datasheet that:

Bin (CL - tRCD - tRP) 9-9-9
tCK(min) 1.5
CAS Latency 9
tRCD(min) 13.5
tRP(min) 13.5
tRAS(min) 36
tRC(min) 49.5

All the (min) items are larger than any of the reported values, so I imagine that's a good sign too.

Does it look to you as if I can forget about the ram?

if the question is
is it running at the correct speed then yes.

if you are getting errors thats what memtest is for

It was the question. Memtest checked out with no errors (I wasn't expecting any) so I guess all that remains to say is thank you very much for your assistance, Scott.

Ah yes. That's what comes of speed-reading.
