|
|
Been a Steinberg/Cubase user for many years. When Id hear Pro Tools was better Id stick up for Cubase. So when the time came for a new interface I purchased the MR816csx. Well I guess I was wrong. From day one, see posts by me....I had a dropouts and cracks from a Dell xps 1730 laptop. After months of trying every thing Yamaha/Steinberg suggested including a pci external TI chipset card ...in fact two separate cards...I eventually was told that it might be a problem with my laptop!!!!!!! Well I decided to build a desktop! I bought a x58a-ud5 Gigabyte, I7-950, 6gb ram, 3 sata hdd 8800gtx vid card, All posted fine so I installed the software with all updates including firmware. The MB has an internal TI firewire which shares an irq with 3 usb controllers that are not being used. Sure enough the dropouts continue. I have tried to install legacy drivers, disable speedstep and turbo boost and C1E, disabled most everything I could to prevent the dropouts to no avail. The only thing that helps a little is the utility buffer increase that also increase latency but doesnt completely solve the problem. This system is state of the art with an onboard TI chipset and latest processor, mb and win 7 64 bit with all updates. What more can you ask for Steinberg????????? Do I need to stand on my head and do a flip to get this to work???? I asked for a refund by Yamaha, even though its been almost a year, this problem existed from the beginning!! I was told that I need to get a pci card and get it on a dedicated irq........so they can see if its defective!!!!! SO I ordered a card they recommended from Newegg so I can finally put this thing to rest. I haope that if this doesnt work, which I dont believe it will, that I get a refund so I can purchase another interface. I allready spent too much on this new build only to have the same problems. Up to this point I spent 3 days on the build and 7 days on trying stuff to get rid of the dropouts!!!!!!!! Is this what its supposed to be Yamaha/Steinberg???
Setting *FIXES* in utility updates for a problem that may be with either the Mr816csx or driver?? I am sorry If I am a little harsh here I just dont believe it should be this hard to get this working...our time is better spent on recording/producing rather than playing with a finiky driver/unit.

Yes and thanks but ive tried all these and I know you mean well but the list there is so long and things get added every time a new problem arises. Next well be told we cant have flourescent lights in the same room or if we live near transmission lines ....look how many people have to complain about a driver/interface before its found that the problem lies in the product. This product sells partly because of its interface with Cubase...how bout the interface with the computers its meant to work on?? Why dont other audio interfaces have these problems?? Yes I have tried those listed tweaks and others found on ALL the websites I could find the only one left for me is a pci card which I will have soon and hopefully I can get in on a dedicated IRQ to satisfy Steinberg/Yamaha and then we will see...but Ive really had it with this problem Im ready to move on and I am so disapointed with Steinberg/Yamaha that If I didnt have so much invested in Cubase Id just switch to a different DAW alltogether.
Anger not meant for you Davefry...just a long frustrating experience for me and many

I feel the same way. I've done about half on the list and still get drop outs. I'll do the other half and if it doesn't work, I'll sell it and use my FF800 again. That was ROCK SOLID no matter what. Am going to miss the reverb though. _________________ C5.5.1, Nuendo 5.1 32 bit, Win 7 64 bit, Quadcore 2.3, 16 gig Ram, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, (2) UAD-1s, MR8816 CSX, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, and a whole bunch of mojo! |

did you try to change vid card?
i think your 8800gtx require much power and resources
i recommend row performance(ex: 8400gs )<-- very cheap
and check irq (only mr816 use one ch.)
i solved drop out by this way
my system is - amd 1090T 6core /gigabte 870A-UD3/ 8400gs / 3hard disk /8g ram/ 500W power / 3 usb port ( kpc1. nocturn. keystation61es )/
onbord 1394 port (TI- TSB43AB23 chipset) / legacy mode ( didn`t try regular node)
MR816csx set - adat(1-6)+s/pdif(coax) <--- maybe i think this is not important
Maybe i guessed high performance video card invade other pci`s bandwidth
sorry for my bad english....
good luck~ |

| Well I got my recommended PCI card that Yamaha told me to get. I am using win 7 64 bit with a gigabyte x58a-ud5 MB and an I7-950 , I install it on the only PCI slot I have and it does not allow me to dedicate it to a separate IRQ. I called gigabyte and they tell me its a hardware setup that functions with windows 7. Dropouts are still there. Can anyone here tell me if they have this same setup with the mr816 csx and actually have it working?? |

Well I have a Gigabyte GA-EX58 UD5 , an I7 930, 6GB ram @1600, Ati HD5450 graphics card, 4x Samsung Sata Harddrives (IDE not as RAID) , W7 x64 OS without any additional PCI firewire card (using the on board firewire which is TI chopset) and my MR816x + Yamaha n12 connection is rock solid no dropouts. I know this is not much help to you resolving your problem but at least points to there being some other component / configuration you are using that is causing the problems.
Your problem to me therefore is not the Y/S firewire/MR drivers - it is something else on your setup - if you are using RAID for example - there are certain RAID drivers that interefere with streaming audio setups and the benefits of raid in this case is not appropriate on DAW setups - IDE is fine.
Can I therefore suggest you run the dpclatentcy checker application to determine if you have poor driver somewhere else in your system that is causing your machine to drop out as this system should work superb with the MR.
Also make sure you have a sufficient power supply, unplug/disable anything not essential such as wi-fi - it is a case of elimination now within your setup- not chasing for newer MR drivers.
Hope this helps _________________ PC i7-930, GByte X58-UD5 rev1, 6Gb ram 1600mhz, Win7(x64) OS, Cubase 5.5(x86), N12 mixer, MR816x, CC121, HS80M monitors,KX-61,01X, AW2400+mLAN, Sequel2, Wavelab Studio 6 |

I'm running a MR8116X on a gigabyte X58-UD3R (internal firewire) which is very similar with no dropouts. _________________ Comp1: Windows 7 64bit, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R, Intel I7 920, 6 gig Patriot DDR3 ram, RME Digiface, MR816 X, Geoforce 66000 PCIe, Cubase 5.5

"Your problem to me therefore is not the Y/S firewire/MR drivers - it is something else on your setup" Well . . . maybe, maybe not. This is not a controlled scientific test, but I can certainly tell you that I've installed my FF800 on many computers with no issues/drop outs at all. Why is there a VERY long list of "fixes" for this interface? _________________ C5.5.1, Nuendo 5.1 32 bit, Win 7 64 bit, Quadcore 2.3, 16 gig Ram, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, (2) UAD-1s, MR8816 CSX, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, and a whole bunch of mojo! |

installing the "legacy" driver for my firewire card did the trick for me. A sweetwater.com tech person told me about this one...

Was keeping my fingers crossed when I did this, but it did not do the trick for me. _________________ C5.5.1, Nuendo 5.1 32 bit, Win 7 64 bit, Quadcore 2.3, 16 gig Ram, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, (2) UAD-1s, MR8816 CSX, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, and a whole bunch of mojo! |

My solution to get rid of the DPC problems, was disabeling ACPI under Battery in the Device Maneger. All problems gone. Cubase and comptuer works exelent. No tweaks needed.
Sincerely
