Cubase VST 5.1 Parallel Port Dongle (On Windows PC)

I have Cubase VST 5.1 operating on a PC with a parallel port dongle. I know that using a certain version of Syncrosoft Software, that the information contained in the parallel port dongle can be transferred to a Steinberg USB dongle, thus enabling the Cubase VST 5 Software to run on PCs that only have a USB Port.

Because of the large amount of music work I've done with Cubase 5.1, I am very nervous about invoking the transfer of the Cubase protection code from the parallel port dongle to the Steinberger USB Key in case it doesn't work or gets corrupted in the process.

My questions are:-

Does this transfer work successfully?.

Does anyone know of a music store (or similar) who have experience in doing this procedure successfully?.

Has anyone tried using a USB to Parallel Port adaptor ?(instead of undergoing the above procedure). Did it work?. What brand etc of adaptor was it?

Does Cubase VST 5.1 work under the Windows 7 operating System?


I would be most appreciative if I someone could provide me with answers to the above questions.

The license transfer is no problem at all. If you run into problems which is highly unlikely Steinberg support still can help you. Licenses cannot get lost, even if the transfer should fail.
USB based LPT adapter do not work, PCI cards might work but cannot be recommended. The USB-eLicenser is the best place for your Cuabse VST license if you want to use it on a computer without LPT port. Cubase VST is actually running on Windows 7 though this certainly is not a supported operating system.
