I've been running Cubase 4.5 for quite some time with no problems at all and now having problems???
I am using a 2.6 Hz Windows XP based Duo-Core Sweetwater Rack computer with 160 and 500 Gig Hard Drives.
I am using a Yamaha n12 Firewire Mixer as my interface.
I recently added Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (for MS Word to write Lyrics) which was then followed by a holy host of upgrades and security patches and God knows what else.
When the computer upgraded to Windows Explorer 8, it required XP Service Pack 3 to accomodate WinEx8 which I downloaded.
When this all was completed, I rebooted and my computer was totally locked up with blue and black screens of death.
When I tried to open in different safe modes, the computer would hook into a constant loop of restart processes.
Fortunately, I worked together with a Microsoft Tech Rep and we were able to bring the computer back to life (It lives! and "assumed" everything else was fine. WRONG!
Now, when I listen to precorded tracks and MP3 mixdowns in Cubase, I have clicks and scratches and sections of music that cut out entirely.
I've removed Office 2007, the MS Security program and patches and Explorer 8 however, I am am still having the same issue.
If you have any thoughts, guidance or suggestions, please let me know.
Of course, I am working on a co-writing, project and need to get this computer back on track as soon as possible.
Thanks,

1.Get some HD Backup / Imaging software!!!
2.Check, if Cubase is still using the correct ASIO driver

If i remember correctly, there has been reported some issues according FireWire and XP SP3. Some bandwidth limiting and/or bigger problems recognizing connected FW devices.

Just one of the many links shown, when doing a Google search for Windows SP3 and FireWire...
Hope that helps a bit! _________________ schroeder

Thanks to you both!
I may just go back to XP2 altogether.
All worked very well until I brought XP3 into the mix
Damned Computers!
What would we do without them!?

I don't have anti-virus and I don't generally go on-line except for upgrades and downloads.

umm the only reason i asked was because i done a windows update and avg updated itself at the same time and recked xp all it would do was flash up a blue screen very quicklyand keep repeating that cycle, could not access safe mode ,or repair consul ,basically only a month before i passworded the hardrive and now the drive will not boot up at all ,so formatted another drive and had to reninstall everything ,but as the harddrive was protected ive lost all my files ,all because of some sort of update _________________ very stable cubase sx 3.1.944 / dualcore 2.66ghz - 4 gig ram / xp- sp3 / motu ultralite mk111 / midex 8 / mackie hui / a world full of outboards |

Yours sounds just like mine however, I was able to get the computer up and running with the help of an MS Tech.
I have removed the MS Security updates, removed Explorer 8 and all that came with that and now need to see what removing XP3 will do.
