Hi.. can anyone tell me why when i go to use an effect that comes with cubase studio 4 there seems to be little markers next to some of them..
I click on it to use but within a minute or so it seems to crash and mentions something about loosing vst connection.. I did come across a topic about it couple of weeks ago but i cant seem to find it anymore..Id like to use some of these effects so was wondering if anyone has a solution
Im not an expert so please not too much jargon
Sorry to be a pain.. thanks for the help |

which effects in particular ?
are you refering to the slash marks to the left of the plugin name in the pull down window?
if so the 3 slash marks refer to a vst 3 pluggin
no marks refers to a vst 2.4 pluggin
a box with slash marks inside refers to an older Power Pc pluggin vst 2.3 or earlier ( these were not converted to universal binary, ie coded for intel machines) and require a little software emulation app that runs in the background when loaded called vst bridge) if your running a g5 then this app does not need to run for these plugs to work. universal binary means the pluggins will run on power pc machines and intel machines.
im not sure what machine you are running but since your new here it really helps other users give you specific, detailed assistance if you post your system specs in your signature ...ie your computer, os version, cubase version, addtional 3rd party pluggins and software.

no i am saying that opereration happens normally in the background as part of the cubase program. you should be able to use all of the effects/ instruments that are part of the standard cubase installation package.
what i am saying is all cubase instruments and fx are generically called vst's - virtual studio technology - Steniberg speak for "we wrote a program that emulates : synth, eq, compresser etc." vst is their proprietary way of implementing a virtual studio within your computer
those versions 2.2. - 3.0 of vsts are just that , versions that have been updated as technology has developed .. on your machine if you run any plugs ( steinberg or otherwize) that are version 2.3 or earlier it means they were written during the G5 era of macs and were not recoded for the intel era. its is possible to run them but they are not as stable ..use with caution
if you work through the getting started manual a lot of this will be made clearer
