Howdy,

I have an Edirol PCR30 MIDI keyboard. It has 3 levels of velocity sensitivity as far as I can tell. However, this is sometimes not enough - for example, in GrooveAgent One my understanding is that each pad can have up to eight samples associated with it, so if you have for example a kick drum that has been recorded at eight different levels of attack, you can get the software to play back these eight levels dependning on the velocity. With only three levels on my controller, I thus manually have to adjust the velocity settings after I've recorded a beat using the keyboard in order to get the right samples to trigger. I assume the same issue would occur in many VST instruments.

My question is - does anyone know of any MIDI controller that has more than three levels of velocity sensitivity?

Thoughts?

Of course you realise that each of the 3 velocity mappings send out velocity message from 0 to 127.

The mapping just sets how hard you have to hit the key to get to 127. soft/medium/hard

Using cubases editing capabilities should further enhance the data, logical editor, midi compression and a multiple of other ways.

Well, if I wanted the keyboard to allow me to for example hit the key and get velocity messages of 0-31, 32-63,64-95, and 96-127 depending on how hard I hit the key I would essentially need a keyboard that had more than just soft/medium/hard and instead one that had four levels of sensitivity, right?

As Far As I Know there is no such keyboard that is setup to give limited velocity ranges!!!

Maybe some advanced editing parameter within some keyboards could be made to work like that? you could set Cubase to work like that though.

Velocity layers???

The three sensitivities just determine how responsive the keyboard is to touch, it'll kick out 0-127 on all three sensitivities.
