In WL 7 there is an option to use clip effects when you select a clip in a montage. Great possibility.......PG. My question is: is there a possibility to select several clips (in a montage used for the same song) at the same time, so that the effect is used only for these selected clips in that track ? I tried this, but the effect is only working for one clip.

For true object-based automation, it's hard to create that sort of link without adding a "group" layer for objects to the GUI. Not easy or necessarily clear to implement. I don't see that feature, but it may well be here.

What you CAN do: Set up the effect on one track. Select the desired effect in the "clip" effect tab. Click "copy" in that tab, then select your next track. Click the "paste" button up there. The effect will be copied exactly as it is in the other clip. If you make changes to it, based on sound in that track, you can copy/paste it back over the original...

In practice, this simply means the two songs/clips have different processing needs. The original setting may have been perfect for the original clip, so why compromise it for the benefit of the other song? This leads to the second solution...

Put all the clips you want to "group" effects for on a single new Track in WL. Set up the common effect in the Track effects tab, not the clip tab. Now when you make changes they'll apply to all clips on that track. This gets you EXACTLY what you want, preserving the ability to make adjustments individually via clip. You still have a master section to apply common effects to the entire record (or not - I tend to use track effects instead since they save with the montage).

Hope this helps.

Steven,

in WL7 there is a new option to paste an effect to all selected clips - I think this is what you are looking for.
It is on the effects tab under functions: You first have to select an effect for one clip and make your settings. Then select "copy" under functions and then you can "paste to all selected clips".

Lutz has the right answer. This mimics was happened in 6. Note that there must always be 1 plugin per clip, an effect can't be shared.
