I've asked this question in one of the threads but since it is more like an offtopic for that thread I am asking here:
A friend of mine has got The Grand 1. I like it and I have also made few recordings with it. However an issue with the pedal really *quiz* me off so that I wouldn't buy it until fixed. On a real piano when you play a note and release the key and almost immediately after that you press the sustain pedal, the sound is caught which is most noticeable and useful with the bass notes. There is a variation in that technique when you are sustaining a bass note, playing in the high register with both hands and making a very fast pump with the pedal from time to time so that the sustained bass note continues to sound but the higher notes are not overlapped too much and are picked up by the dampers since they are decaying a lot faster than the bass note. While the latter is probably rarely used technique by me, the fisrt one is really-really part of my playing! Tell me if I am wrong with that, but I am really used to playing a bass note, release it and at the same time press the pedal, expecting to catch it and use my fingers for the other parts. This is the case with all the real and digital pianos I have ever tried. Well, not the case with The Grand! I ended up with bass notes sounding like a staccato! Is this corrected in The Grand 2? If yes, I will definitely buy it, but if not - just forget about that... And if you think I have developed bad habits, please let me know. |

There is nothing to "fix" here. The pedal catch feature you describe is simply not present in The Grand (or The Grand 2). I did suggest Wizoo back in January 2002 to implement it in the next version (version 2) and got a positive response (no promise though) but they apparantly never bothered to implement it. _________________ www.fogwall.com |
