I'd like to connect headphones to my system but can't figure out where.

I've got:
Shuttle SB65G2
Audiophile 2496 PCI soundcard
Alesis RA150 amp
Tannoy Reveal speakers

Now, neither my soundcard or amp has a direct connection for headphones. So my question is: is there a good way to connect headphones here, or do I absolutely need a dedicated headphone amp?

Thanks,
Serge

a headphone amp would work, but what i did with my delta 1010lt was went to radioshack and got some adapters
for the output of the soundcard to the headphones and it was plenty loud...

Yeah, a headphone amp seems like it would be your only choice as the Audiophile (and the delta range) do not have headphone inputs (I have, but dont use any more, a Delta 44 card).

A few things to check out :-

a) Cheap Mixing Board - They usually have a headphone output - feed the outs into the desk and your away.

eg. Alesis MultiMix 6FX, TAPCO by Mackie 6306, Behringer Eurorack Pro RX-1602 (plus other cheap Eurorack models) - so you can pick something up around 100 US dollars or so if you look around (not the best desks in the world, but can be useful for 1 set of headphones plus a mixer to boot).

b) Headphone Amps - I found this link which has quite a large selection of amps from 50 to 310 US dollars.

c) "Studio Control Centres" - This is what people might call the emerging market (I reckon we'll see more varieties of this kind of hardware arriving in 2006/07) but this is where I'm moving into - a few examples :-

Mackie Big Knob - waiting for mine to arrive Razz

Presonus Central Station

I am sure there are others, but these I already know about - but they're the more expensive solution, but also control multiple pairs of monitors simultaneously and talkback etc (a la real studio but for a fraction of the price I imagine).

Anyway, you have choices, it just depends on your budget - Maybe other people know a cheaper option (if needed)?
Cheers
G

maggotspawn,
Thanks. That seems to be the cheapest solution. I'll try to get an adapter like that, and see if I find the sound loud enough.

frogga,
Thanks for the options! I'll look into it.
