I'm having some timing unstability w midi, and could the sharing of IRQ be the problem? Any solutions? The IRQ in question is 21. _________________ XP, SP3, X86 Family 15 Stepping 3 Intel 3200 HT, 2048 + 300, M-Audio Firewire 410, C5, Halion Player, Hypersonic 2, Virtual Bassist, Virtual Guitar, Virtual Guitar EE, Groove Agent 3, X-phrase, Celemony Plug-in |

I don't get the gut feeling that this is the cause, but I don't use 1394, so I have no experience in this.
Please describe what you mean by "timing unstability w midi". Lots of people would define this in different ways; for example...
Is your MIDI late?
Is your MIDI early?
Is your MIDI sometimes late and sometimes early?
Is your MIDI sometimes correct, and/or sometimes late or early?
When it is "unstable", what is the behavior? Can you re-create the problem at will, or is it pretty much random? Can you tell us if there's any other strange behavior that goes hand-in-hand with the "timing unstability?" Does it go away if you shut down Cubase and restart it? Does it go away if you reboot your system?
See what I mean by needing more information? Please get back to us with details, and maybe we'll be able to give you some suggestions. Thanks, and good luck! _________________

With "unstable" I mean that the whole midi stream stutters, every midi channel holding back, and then suddenly trying to keep up again. A kind of bottleneck effect, like some resource isn't up to it.
I should point out that I haven't tweaked XP the complete recommended list posted elsewere, suppose I should. The problem can be anything that XP or Symantec is normally trying to do when it's not behavin'......cannot afford the rig to be restricted only to music. _________________ XP, SP3, X86 Family 15 Stepping 3 Intel 3200 HT, 2048 + 300, M-Audio Firewire 410, C5, Halion Player, Hypersonic 2, Virtual Bassist, Virtual Guitar, Virtual Guitar EE, Groove Agent 3, X-phrase, Celemony Plug-in |

What Symantec software are you running on it? _________________

Hi,
I'd have thought it's more likely to be contention'latwncy on the PCI bus, rather than IRQ sharing, that's causing the problem.

Personally, I wouldn't put this piece of "work" on any computer used for DAW work. You can temporarily kill it in the Task Manager to see if that helps. mm _________________ Modular Sequencing: Texture 3.1r (Dos)

Also, I've noticed that Ekhardt under other posts about Syncrosoft updates says that "If you use LPT port MIDI interfaces please check the option to install the LPT port driver! Please note that MIDI interfaces might not work reliably with this driver installed."
Now, i always do the LPT driver install, because in dark moments I like to return to old times and the trusty VST 5. Could this explain my problem? _________________ XP, SP3, X86 Family 15 Stepping 3 Intel 3200 HT, 2048 + 300, M-Audio Firewire 410, C5, Halion Player, Hypersonic 2, Virtual Bassist, Virtual Guitar, Virtual Guitar EE, Groove Agent 3, X-phrase, Celemony Plug-in |
