Hoping someone can help. I purchased Groove Agent a year ago and installed it no problems on my laptop. Worked a treat.

However - just bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) to use specifically for music stuff. Transferred everything else over (Cubase SX, Virtual Guitarist, ...) no problems - BUT - Groove Agent refuses to install. Goes through the initial screens, including license agreement, then pops up a message "Updating the registry (this may take a few minutes)" and then sits there for a while before saying "Install Groove Agent from the original CD-ROM!".

And just in case you're wondering - I am trying to install it from the original CD. I suspect the problem is that the computer I am has a DVD-RW/+RW drive (instead of a CD drive) - although it can obviously read CDs. On the other hand, I haven't had any problems installing any other software - only Groove Agent.

Any ideas??? Anyone else had this problem?

Steve

Hello SteveOvens,

the problem is that your CD/DVD Rom has to trouble to read the Install CD.
Do you looked to the CD -> Do you see any damages?
(If so - please get in contact with the Distributor of Australia and asked them if they can swap the Install CD to a new one. If you get in trouble, please drop me a mail)

See you,
Micha.

Hi Micha,

Thanks for your reply. The CD looks OK (apart from the copy-protection "stripe"). I ran it through a "Disk Doctor" CD repair machine and it made no difference.

I DID, however, manage to get around the problem... Very Happy

I discovered that I could install GA on an older Windows 2000 server machine I had lying around at home - so I mapped the CD drive on the W2K machine from my laptop, and I was able to install from the mapped drive across the network with no problems.

Makes me think that the problem is most likely that the DVD+/-RW drive in the new laptop is a touch sensitive about reading some types of CDs - perhaps the intentional flawing of the CD to provide some measure of copy-protection has rendered the CD unreadable on newer drives...?

Of course, today I tried to install the "minor update" to GA 1.001 from the Steinberg web site and it wanted the original CD in the laptop's own CD-ROM drive. Same problem occured during the update install. <sigh> Crying or Very sad (Reckon I'll live without that update!)

Cheers,

Steve

Hello SteveOvens,

good news.
Yes, we have some reports to your experience.
Some CD/DVD devices doesn't accept the "old" protection CDs from some products.
The only chance to install the update is to borrow an external device and install the update.

Please notice that "Groove Agent 2" comes with a "normal" CD.
But this version needs a Steinberg Key ( USB Protection Key ).

See you,
Micha.

I have this problem too.

Luckily, I have a DVD-rom (which wouldn't read it) and a cd-rom that does, so I managed to install it.

Groove agent 2 doesn't have an issue in the dvd-rom drive. The problem I have, is since I have a GA2 upgrade I have to install GA1 (which I really didn't want to have to do).
