Hi,

I received this Cubase LE software with a guitar pedal I bought.

I paid for it so I'm going to have my say and you can delete my post, ban my site, sue me, send the CIA, FBI, KGB, British Secret Service and the US. Marines to kill me - Whatever you guys would like to do.

I had to write and say a couple of things.
Firstly, This is the least friendly and welcoming forum I've ever run into.

The rules on this site are positively hostile. If you're trying to encourage creativity then you don't understand creative people - Creative people tend to be sensitive types, people with personalities that they bury deep inside themselves because they've suffered a lot - suffering is something that fuels creative types.

You get through to them by being friendly and encouraging, not telling them that you reserve the right to reveal their identities in courts of law.

Secondly I have a great idea for Cubase software - write all the menus in a random combination of Sanskrit and Mandarin - you might as well because not a single thing in the software makes any sense whatsoever - and I have two degrees in Computing and a Degree in Music from a top ten ranked school in the United Kingdom.

Just getting the software to record something is more confusing, cryptic and frustrating than driving instructions through rural Tajikistan written by a dyslexic Japanese brain surgeon.

And you guys want me to pay to give me more functionality in this software?

Go on. Prove me wrong. Respond to me nicely.

Naa.. You wont will you.

Later,

Deoxy.

Welcome to the forum then, Deoxy:)
I have no computer degrees, and Cubase is the only sequencer i have gotten into, but it works perfectly fine with me.
As far as I'm concerned, the people in here are really helpful.

As far as OVERALL impression goes, you seem to have hit the nail on the head.

The thing is, helpful friendly people DO EXIST within this forum.

Layer one - TOP:
My experience so far is that the moderators are currently getting burned out being used as Crying or Very sad dongle police Crying or Very sad . Tank seems to remained helpful. Very Happy

On my first read one of the mods wrote that it isn't helpful to make comments like "Steinberg SUX" (tho this Shocked WAS Shocked my first mod experience), and then expect help. My questions DID get answered on multiple threads over that subsequent few weeks. 'nuff said.

Layer TWO:
There helpful people who answer REAL, DETAILED problems fairly quickly. But... They too can get burned out due to the Exclamation appalling lack of FAQs Exclamation on the forum. There are a few stickies, but... Thus it's the same problems over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over, etc!!!!!

Layer THREE:
Yes, the Cubase GUI is non-intuitive many times. Crying or Very sad The menu needs a translator into "how you REALLY think about" this item. Once you "get used" to it... Wink
There are currently many new users, like myself, asking about and receiving suggestions on learning tools. Check them out!

Anyways, good luck with making music.

In my opinion the rules have done much more good than harm. I'm assuming you did not participate in these forums 2-3 years ago when not only were there "sensitive types, people with personalities" , remember PhilEXPERT?.....but endless trolls and crack users who became so abundant, most engineers and producers (I can think of 2 who have platinum pop records on their walls) who contributed a wealth of information (not Cubase specific) left this forum and have not returned.

I think there are a few of the suffering type in the Cubase Music Lounge so you might like that area.

I believe that some (not all) people who ask questions on this forum have a negative attitude before they even get started! When you post a question it is up for grabs to whomever wants to reply. You may not get the response you are looking for nor be able to solve the problem, but at least they are acknowledging it! Just because someone suggests to Read the Manual doesn't mean that they "Have an Attitude" or a "Chip on their shoulder"!People need to leave their "Junk in the Trunk" so to speak and post with some kindness and respect! You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar!
PLEASE! Be kind!
Thanks,
ROD J.

Thanks to all of you that replied. My faith in humanity is restored - well.. a little maybe.

I just thought - well I'll register and go check out the forums to see if the problems I'm having with this software are common.

When I registered I started to read the rules and agreements and everything and I almost fell off my chair - I thought "Wow!, whoever wrote this stuff is really a mean-spirited anti-social hate-fuelled prick!".

But I guess if this forum was a troll fest all this time then I understand why.

I was very surprised to return and find my post still here (I thought it would get deleted as soon as a mod saw it) and that there were not just replies - but friendly cordial replies from "real" people.

One of my friends nicknamed me "Dirty Ol' Man" (because it is the name of a hit song by famous soul group "The Three Degrees" and I have three degrees  :) ) but I'm usually pretty slow compared to others to figuring out stuff when it comes to the technical side of music. I read music - sort of - I'm more of a TAB guy.

I'm not musical genius or anything but I'm not entirely dumb about music - I'm still kinda surprised at the level that this software goes over my head.

Cubase really needs a unified interface which uses a consistent set of icons which are clear as to their purpose (without having to use tooltips each time). It really needs one main interface instead of the three or four that it seems to use.

There should be one interface for input, one interface for outputs, one interface for amplification, one for effects, one for analyzing the sound envelope in detail down to the ASDR(Attack Sustain Decay Release) for each note where possible.

Each interface should then give you the option (perhaps in a drop down box) to change from setting parameters for the entire system to a specific track/instrument/input/etc.

I'm still confused as to what the heck the "Transport" interface is and why there are about a dozen seperate very small individual interface windows.

Also, I did everything the instructions that came with my Zoom G2.1u told me to do and I tried everything I could think of but the thing just doesnt seem to record anything. As for playing back I have no idea if it works or not.
I can't even put anything into a track.

It's a really strange piece of software.

Anyone got any tips?

Thanks again for the kind replies,

Regards,

Deoxy.

Sounds like you want Cubase to be Tracktion. Very Happy

http://www.mackie.com/products/tracktion2/splash.html

You might want to give it a try. Very Happy

Based on users submitting "suggestion" lists from 1992 that aren't implemented yet, I'd say your well meaning comments are duplicates at best and probably futile Crying or Very sad .

Consider that Yamaha took over six months ago and new users need to stand on their heads, spin around three times, saying magic words (which almost no one knows) to even REGISTER online... Crying or Very sad

Laughing Laughing As Shreik says "What kind of QUEST?" Very Happy Laughing Laughing

Wow! All that education  ...

I've owned LE for a week and have it (pretty much) figured out.

Sounds like you may have to expend some effort.

Good luck.
