I've just purchased a US-122 with Cubase LE. I'm using a mic on the left channel to try to get this thing set up for my wife who wants to record audio tracks with background music. I can get it to record but the input level meters barely even register anything. Also the playback is very low, I have to turn my computer speaker volume up quite high to hear anything. I've tried adjusting the gain and mic input levels but it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

thanks,

Richard

I assume you are trying to OVERDUB! Correct? I try doing this all of the time since I basically am a DRUMMER myself and like to practice my CHOPS! Yes, it is rather difficult to get your levels correct since you are concerned mainly with being able to MONITOR as well as RECORD. You did not say what instrument you are recording with. Guitar,Keyboard,or what. What is your mike selection? Dynamic or Condenser? If I were you I would set my Levels at 0db's in each recorded track without any effects and mix it down from there. You should be able to get a reasonable volume from that!

I'm using a dynamic mic only. No guitar, keyboard, nothing else. Only the mic for now. I've set the db levels at many different levels with no affect. Question

Do you have any sound on your Headphones? What are you using to MONITOR with? Do you have your Program set up correctly? Are you sure you have good mike cables? Do you see input levels on your meters when you record? What are they READING? Is your SOUNDCARD in the right MODE? It should be set for US-122 ASIO DRIVER.
Thanks,

Yes, I have sound on my headphones and thats what I'm using to monitor. I think the program is set up correctly, I followed the tutorial on the CD. Mike cable is brand new. There is basically no reading on the input levels when I record, maybe 1 or 2 blips but nothing consistent. I'm not sure how to set the mode for my soundcard. I went to the control panel and changed the Audio recording to US-122 A:B, didn't help. I can't find a mode setting.

Try this:START>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES>AUDIO>DEFAULT DEVICE>SOUND PLAYBACK>(same as recording device)>DEVICE VOLUME(make sure it is all the way up). Open up CUBASE and DEVICES>DEVICE SETUP>MULTI-TRACK>US-122 ASIO DRIVER.In CUBASE go to DEVICES>VST INPUTS>Check each blue lamp in each input that you wish to Record with.Open the MIXER set your volume faders to Unity gain.Click on the red and the orange lamps in each track.Make sure your Blue markers at the top>-------< are set correctly to your recording range. Don't take offense but if you open the HELP"Getting Started"PDF file at the top under RECORDING this can explain it better than I. It's probobly something very simple.Rolling Eyes
Thanks,
ROD J.
