I have the cubase arr window on monitor 1 and the VSTi and FX on monitor 2. These are to the left of me on top of a master keyboard. Then directly in front of me, but behind by mixing desk I have monitor 3 with the cubase mixer on it. That way when I am mixing I am facing the monitor speakers. I sometimes change this around but by and large thats how I have it. Monitor 3 is of course behind my speakers so as to avoid any reflection

I have an old but pretty cool looking Tascam TMD-8000 which most of the time now acts as a large monitor section!
http://www.recordingeq.com/tasc/tasc1a.htm
May have to get something smaller at some ponit

It's actually not as big as it looks and show me another mixer that has 52 physical faders and is only 4 foot wide??

yes, and I might actually just get 3 mackie controls and a big knob, that would be cool. I use valve preamps for recording straight into my soundcard so I seriously only use the desk for monitoring. One disadvantage of the Tascam is that it cannot be used as a midi controller, except the centre knob section otherwise I would keep it as the utlimate 52 fader midi controller.

That was the one thing that always bothered me....you have the preamps..then the mixer..then the soundcard..now the application has its own gain structure...
too many faders for one signal...
3 mackies, and a big knob. I wonder what the layout possibilites are....how do the mackies connect to eachother..could you put one of them off to the side?....like keep 2 for the main mixer and them the other designated as returns or aux's...I mean I know you can do that..but to have it literally off to the side....that would be interesting....
oh well..its still early for me and I need food.....
hence forth..there go er go..I shalst eat |

My valve preamps go straight into my soundcard digitally so I don't have that problem. I have only ever used the mixer for mixing and monitoring, never recording.

You sound like a clever chap
I use stuff from a British company, TL Audio. I have 4 of their valve mic preamps and I also have one of their valve equalisers.

clever?..I geeked out on tubes....they had this mystery about them when I was younger. so I took it upon myself to learn as much as my brian could hold.
whats cool is I learned whats real and whats hype along the way....this helps alot.. |

Well, hello from happy PA-1 and VI-1 user!
(Dear SantaRiff, as you are probably aware, Chritsmas is not over yet, Russia celebrates it tomorrow. Please note, I'd really love to get their 8-ch Tubetracker).
Cheers,
