Hi guys,
this might be a very silly question, but I can't find an option that allows me to play Virtual Bassist on more than an octave.
Once I play B on my MIDI keyboard the next C has got the same pitch as the previous one.
How do I set the VST to the natural range of a Bass guitar??
Need some help!

Ok!! I worked it out myself!
I read it from other posts and double checked witj my dealer:
Virtual Bassist can be played only over an octave. That's ridiculous!!!
I regret purchasing it! I should have asked first..
I mean I tried using the interface at the store and it seemed quite easy. Plus: outstanding samples; the sound is really amazing.
But it's absolutely pointless to have a virtual bass that plays only 12 pitches!
I definitely do not recommend it

I have the same exact opinion as you. Luckily I got it for about us$100 or so!
However the manual says actually the pitch is two octaves C to C then to B; but in reality I found the same as you: it only plays one active.
Besides I'm having a hard time even understanding how it works or getting to work period.
Just unbeliveable. I recommend no one buying it at least you can play it over three octaves! _________________ SX 3.1.1 build 944; Wavelab 4;

Hi!
I stumpled upon the same problem, but found a acceptable though 7 step workaround. I use VB SE (included in Studio Case II) and thought VB1 would have 2 octave at least. But i think the bass sound is unrivalled, especially for crispy bass lines, funky stuff, heavy stuff etc.. The HalionOne sounds are no competition. I would also like at least two but better three octaves from the start, but as Steinberg legacied VB....
here's the workaround:
1. Make your bass line in MIDI
2. Split the midi parts into two: one holding the lower octave, one holding the higher one. You can do this by duplicating and using logical editor to delete upper resp lower octave
3. Connect the midi tracks to VB in single note mode
4. Make an audio mixdown of the lower octave track
5. Make an audio mixdown of the upper octave track
6. Pitch shift the upper octave audio track one octave up
7. Mix the two nicely together in a group channel
Once I got this, I found its useful for more VB tricks: have a standard bassline in two octaves play along with the song and add a funky slap bass intermezzo in the bridge. I'm relatively happy with the result! _________________ Apple iMac 21.5" CubaseStudio5.5 GrooveAgent3 RealLPC Real Guitar Amplitube3

If I'd bought it, I'd be trying to get my money back. _________________ Jules77

The one octave range in manual mode is a huge pain, but other than that it's a brilliant package. I don't know of any lump of software that is perfect. _________________ -------

Virtual Bassist was a total disappointment for me. Not only the one octave limitation. A lot of rhythms are very "Casio autocomp" though they are well programmed VB was not in the line of Virtual guitarist and Groove Agent. It was developed by other programers. The programmers of Virtual Guitarist also did Broomstick Bass who deserves this honor and it's cheaper. I have always wanted my money back. _________________ PPC G5 2.5 DUAL, OS 10.4.11, CUBASE 4.5.2, MOTU 2408 MKII, YAMAHA 01V, lots of vst instruments, Roland XP10 controller, Alesis QS8,...

| I was looking at buying this software, now I'm not so sure as your views are not fantastic. Is there anything any better? |
