even though it's an official cubase sx3, like the actual dvd and serial number (i also have the registration cards, the person apparently hadn't registered it), with the box, demos, and manual, it's really not worth anything at all because it doesn't have the right dongle or activation code? and if i can't get a refund from the guy then i might as well throw it away?
that seems weird though, because if you're going to sell the actual package but still try to keep it on your computer, why wouldn't you just get another dongle and copy the license so you could keep using yours but atleast the real package you sent out works too? i mean why go through the trouble of sticking a fake dongle in when you could have just given a real one since you're really getting rid of the rest of the package? why bother with the facade of a fake dongle other than just to be spitefull?
is there anything else? i mean maybe like im just not accessing the dongle right or something |
Okay try this:
Download the latest Syncrosift software from here.
http://www.steinberg.de/469_1_.html
Install and run the software and then check the dongle again and see if there are any licenses on it. If there aren't then I am afraid he has not supplied you with the correct dongle. Perhaps he made an error and sent you the wrong dongle.
Let me know how you get on
T
P.S By the way there is no way he could have copied the licence since it can only be on one dongle at a time. All licenses are managed from a central server. This server talks to your dongle while you are on line and manages the licenses. _________________ Cubase 5| Dual Quad Xeon 3.2 | Intel Chipset | 16Gb Ram | SATA 300 Audio, Video and Sample Storage Drives x 6.

| Cubase sx3 installs fine on my computer. When I try to open it though, it never does. When it's about to open i get "microsoft has encounterd a problem..." message. I have the legal version that i bought from musicians friend. Any suggestions? |

Hi there, no, the activation code is different from the code on the key, the activation key is either on a card if you are buying an upgrade or if you are buying a new full product you don't need one since the license has already been put on the key. ..........and yes it looks like you have been ripped off I am afraid. The Cubase 4 upgrade is only available to purchasers of the official SX3 version. In fact the C4 software would not see any SX license on the dongle and hence wouldn't work or install.
As I said in my last message, the only thing you can do is to contact the original seller, also contact ebay and if you paid for it via paypal you may have grounds for a refund since you have been sold an illegal product.
Good luck and sorry we cannot do anything more for you. This is one of the pitfalls of buying from ebay rather than a recognised Steinberg dealer.

Tank,
Hello, I have read this entire thread twice to find out what I need to do before i purchase and make a mistake...sort of have all my ducks in a row first. I currently have a legit SL 2.0 copy of cubase that works fine. I plan on getting the C4 crossgrade. I am confused now. The Steingberg online shop says that for 399.00 I can get a crossgrade of C4 from any Cubase SL version. However in the post I just quoted you on you state C4 can only be upgraded from SX and that the upgrade will only recognize the key from a SX dongle. I dont want to waste the money to find out...Ooops it doesnt work and to be frank I just cant afford a full version anytime soon. Can you please clarify this and what I need to do?
Thanks
Von

Hi there, I was only quoting 'official SX3' as an example to the poster because that was the version he was talking about. Provided that you have an official version of SL with licence on the key you can upgrade as described on the Steinberg website. However, upgrades vary depending on the distributer so obviously the quoted prices apply to US orders.

I finally got a new, faster, more powerful studio computer! Very exciting.
Now I'm trying to install Cubase SX3. I'm guessing I need to install from the original disc, right? I tried installing it by launching the SX3.1.1 update, but it stops because it is looking for a file to already be in my Program Files\Cubase SX3 folder.
I thought perhaps it's necessary to first install from the original disc. I tried installing from the original disc and ran into the screen where it is asking for the 5 group of 5 digit activation code. I'd put the installation disc in a jewel box at some point and I don't think I have the original sleeve or slip of paper with the activation code.
My copy of Cubase SX3 is registered. I sent in the card, and later registered it online. Steinberg should have my ser. number, name, and any other registration info.
What are the chances I will be able to get SX3 installed on the new computer? I've enjoyed using Cubase SX on my old computer since SX1 came out. Looking forward to recording and mixing an a really powerful machine. _________________ "Compression is like a drug that you can't get enough of. " - Joe Chiccarelli

I got the issue above straightened out. And there is an article in the knowlege base on Steinberg key related issues that addresses my question. I would not have thought to look there since my issue concerned the activation code, not the Steinberg key, but I did end up reading it and it states that if you request, your regional Steinberg distributor can issue a new code if yours is lost.
Thanks to Steinberg USA for their quick response and assistance!
Cubase SX3 is now up and running on my new computer, and I can now turn my attention to issues with my MOTU audio card, MIDI interface and drivers and a few non-cooperative plugins. _________________ "Compression is like a drug that you can't get enough of. " - Joe Chiccarelli

I have to say, while Cubase is nice to use, the support to register & install the product is incredibly difficult.
I want to upgrade Cubase LE to 4.1.2 from 4.0.5, but I'm scared to lose my $$$$ because I don't know if I will somehow screw up my activation code / license.
I have my Steinberg number (for my Presonus) and my activation key. If I upgrade to 4.1.2, what steps do I need to go through? _________________ WinXP SP3
